I know a lot of folks who unconsciously mimic the accents of their surroundings. I've even caught myself doing it before, and can't explain it.

Every time I go up to Chicago or Alberta I start picking up the nasal thing. But I still say ya'll.

When I was taking calls from record promoters at a country radio station, I talked to southerners of various dialects for two hours a day two days a week. I'd always get off those phone calls sounding just like them! My boss often teased me about it.
