I have a question, and ya'll will probably think I am stupid or ignorant.
Lemme preface it with a story...

Back on election night 2000, I was looking for a local "watch party" to join, to watch the numbers roll in. A friend sent me an email with a few parties around Houston. I chose one near where I worked. It was sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign. I wasn't familiar with the group, but it sounded nice. I went to the party, and while I noticed that the group seemed to have quite a few same-sexed couples, I didn't think that was unusual for liberal social groups overall anyway. I even signed up for their mailing list. Later, I started getting mail about gay rights, but I figured since I signed up with one liberal group, they shared my addy, and that was fine too. It wasn't until about 4 months ago that I actually found out that HRC was a LGBT rights organization! I thought it was really funny that I didn't know all this time. (no shock; just a humorous revelation!:-) )

Anyway, now for the question... when someone has the rainbow sticker or the HRC blue and gold sticker, is it assumed that they are LGBT, or maybe just a supporter of the rights? Is perhaps the rainbow sticker or the HRC sticker more or less likely to be a straight supporter/friend?

I was curious, because I was thinking about adding more liberal stickers to my car, and I'd like to know if there was a sticker I could use to show support, while not necessarily meaning I myself was LGBT.

1. More likely they are themselves LGBT, IMstraightO.
Look at it this way, doubles your chance for a date. ;-)

3. Don't feel bad. I went on a gay date once and didn't know.
Until it dawned on me later. and I asked him about it.

I worked with this guy who was gay but unlike the rest of my coworkers it didn't matter to me. So, when he invited me to do something one weekend I didn't think much of it. We went out to eat, visited a music store and caught a movie.

I did think it was strange that he picked up the dinner tab but I thought he was just being generous since he made more money than me and he knew it.

I'm not normally that clueless.

7. Something similar happened to me once.
Started talking with this guy in a bookstore. He suggested we get a bite to eat. Halfway through lunch I realized, "Holy shit, I'm on a date, and I'm the GIRL!!!". That was awkward to say the least.

14. No, we moved from the subject that started us talking...
...to more personal questions; like those asked on a first date. LOL. It was just a general sense I got.

He was pretty cool about it when I finally mustered up the guts to tell him I am straight. He was more embarrassed than I was, I think. He was a good guy, and we talked after that, but never became close friends or anything. This was at the A&M campus, too, so he was taking a BIG chance.

18. WOW! Yeah, that was a big chance at A&M!
Ya gotta respect him for that!

It's hard enough to ask someone out, and make yourself vulnerable like that, without the extra stuff that goes along with A&M attitudes.

19. Hey the 2nd floor men's room at the A&M Academic Bldg...
...was voted one of the top 10 places for anonymous gay sex in Texas by some magazine in the late 80s. It caused a BIG RUCKUS on campus. Front page news and all! LOL

13. How'd you handle the rest of lunch? Were you too wigged out to talk?
Years later in grad school I used to go with my gay friends to the gay bars because you didn't have to deal with drunk rednecks.

It was a family-like atmosphere. Everyone there were usually regulars. We developed some great friendships. And on more than one occasion a guy bought me a drink. LOL!

6. PFLAG
There's an organization called PFLAG, I think in California. It stands for something like Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. It connotes straights who support GLBT's. One of their bumper stickers might be what you want.

8. I briefly looked at that site...
before I posted, but didn't see anything for sale. I liked their combination of a heart, HRC symbol, and rainbow on the main site. Very nice graphic. I'll check it out more later.

Thanks!:hi:

10. I have the pink triangle in my sig line as a sign of support.
I did have it as my avatar, but decided there was enough confusion about me sometimes, since my name could be taken as a guy's name and I'm a married girl. :)

maybe I'll try adding an image to my sig. I haven't yet tried any tricks with the sig line. I wasn't sure how people did all the fancy stuff there.

17. Reminds me of a joke
Two guys are in an airport bar, both grabbing a quick bite before they went home. They were discussing everything under the sun and found out that they were very similar in their knowledge and likes and dislikes. This went on for more than a few hours until the bar began closing, and both men had to leave.

They put on their jackets, and walked to the door, and one guy said to the other, "Pardon me, but are you gay by any chance?". The fellow answered in the negative, so he said, "That's a shame, neither am I".

21. AHAHAHAHA!:-) I have felt that way before!
Actually, my best friend and I joke like that alot. We are totally compatible... been best friends for 20 years now. Every now and then when one of us has a break up, and we're bitching about men, we'll say, "WHY couldn't one of us have been born with a penis?!" LOL

22. Holy Bat Closet, do you all realize what this means ??!!!
There are straight men & women out there everywhere that are slightly less quick on the upbeat than GOPisevil that have gone out on " Dates " with gay people and were never called back thus being dumped and rejected without ever knowing what has happened.

Serches for the hidden cameras & listens for Twilight zone music to start.

23. I don't think it means that
well, maybe the rainbow or triangles (pink or black) but I have an HRC sticker on my car, and even have been konwn to wear a lapel pin, without being gay. HRC is a gay rights organization, but a gay only org.
