I was woken up by a friend's mom, who lives on the other side of the continent, and was freaking out over a duck she'd found under a hedge in their backyard. Senator Frist at least had video footage to go by ... I only had verbal info and I was trying to identify the species and figure out what was wrong with that particular individual, then suggest a treatment strategy. It's been years since I tech'd in a veterinary clinic, but apparently I was the only person available (or rather, who wouldn't hang up on them after being woken up).

So that's "fristing". I guess we'll see whether I will be shown to be disasterously wrong, in the next few days (maybe it's not a mallard but a merganser, and my dietary suggestions did the poor thing in?).
