Post your favorite female vocalist
Teresa Sagueiro is my favorite; she sings like an angel.

O Sonho - The Dream

When one retells
a dream once drempt
one cannot tell all
for dreams cannot be revealed

I drempt
a dream of love,
with a window, a flower,
a fountain and a friend,
and nothing more...
a light, and nothing else...
and love blossomed there

Love,
a love that I keep secret
in a dream I can't reveal
but I feel more strongly each day

Love,
I have a love well hidden
in a dream I can't express
and will keep within me always.

Quem contar
um sonho que sonhou
no conta tudo o que encontrou
Contar um sonho proibido

Eu sonhei
um sonho com amor
e uma janela e uma flor
uma fonte de gua e o meu amigo
E no havia mais nada...
s ns, a luz, e mais nada...
Ali morou o amor

Amor,
Amor que trago em segredo
num sonho que no vou contar
e cada dia mais sentido

Amor,
eu tenho amor bem escondido
num sonho que no sei contar
e guardarei sempre comigo

47. Perhaps this one will be more to your liking...
It is true, I favor the treble range over the bass.

This is one female voice in the lower range that commands respect of everyone across Latin America

Mercedes Sosa:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIrot1Flczg

Solo le pido a Dios (All I ask of God)

All I ask of God
is that I not become indifferent to pain,
that hollow death may not find me
empty without having done enough

All I ask of God
is that I not become indifferent to injustice,
that my other cheek not be slapped
when the future has clawed for me this fate

Chorus:

All I ask of God
is that I not become indifferent to war,
It is the great monster that trods heavily
over the poor innocence of people
It is the great monster that trods heavily
over the poor innocence of people

All I ask of God
is that I not become indifferent to lies,
if a traitor can defeat the few
let the few not forgive so easily

All I ask of God
is that I not become indifferent to the future,
of the hopeless ones who have to depart
and live under a different culture

That joke never gets old!

I heard her for the first time last week. I wish I knew the name of the song or could remember the lyrics, but it really kicked ass.

Fortunately, it was on a Pittsburgh-local station that will likely keep it in the rotation for a while, so I'm sure to hear it again.

Good stuff!

Change

By: Tracy Chapman

If you knew that you would die today
Saw the face of god and love
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you knew that love can break your heart
When you're down so low that you cannot fall
Would you change?
Would you change?

How bad, how good, does it need to get?
How many losses? how much regret?
What chain reaction would cause an effect?
Makes you turn around
Makes you try to explain
Makes you forgive and forget,
Makes you change
Makes you change

If you knew that you would be alone
Knowing right, being wrong,
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you knew that you would find a truth
That would bring a pain that can't be soothed
Would you change?
Would you change?

How bad, how good, does it need to get?
How many losses? how much regret?
What chain reaction would cause an effect?
Makes you turn around
Makes you try to explain
Makes you forgive and forget,
Makes you change
Makes you change

Are you so up right
You can't be bent
If it comes to blows
Are you so sure you won't be crawling
If not for the good why why risk falling
Why risk falling?

If everything you think you know
Makes your life unbearable
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you'd broken every rule and vow
And hard times come to bring you down
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you knew that you would die today,
If you saw the face of God and loved
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you saw the face of God and loved
If you saw the face of God and loved
Would you change?
Would you change?

could sing like this?

I went looking for my old jazz cd's - (haven't listened to 'em since I got married. He's gone, most of 'em seem to still be here. What does THAT tell you, eh? anyway) -

I ran across some old promotional CD I don't even remember getting..... I was reading the song list and thought WAIT A MINUTE! What's SHE doing on here?!? So I popped it in.

I went looking on YouTube for a link for ya, though I wish there were some way for you to hear it without knowing who it was. (dang it).

I got it - click on the link and CLOSE YOUR EYES. No peaking, now!! ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZuN68aGcTk

I mean - she's no Sade or anything, but I like it infinitely better than what she's "known for" now!

Edited on Sun Aug-05-07 02:15 PM by Xipe Totec
As you can see in this video recorded in Greece, it requires enormous physical stamina to belt out a sustained note for as long as she does. Look carefully at her neck, and you'll see the veins popping out as she keeps the note steady as a rock...
