Did you know you can *save* youtube videos?

Since YouTube has a habit of deleting videos:

If you have Internet Explorer:

1. Empty your cache (Tools/Internet Options/Delete) (if you're not in the habit of doing this, then it might take several minutes the first time you do)
2. Play the video on YT (it has to at least *load* 100%, so that you can move the cursor to the end and get the Play Again button)
3. Go to your cache (Tools/Internet Options/Settings/View Files)
4. Sort by size, and the video file should be at the top. Right-click Copy. Don't close the Temp file window!
5. Open the folder on your hard drive
6. Paste
7. Rename the file to something useful, like spamalot2.flv (you might have to add the FLV extension yourself)
8. Close the Temp file window

For more videos (e.g., multiple parts), repeat all steps.

Now you're ready to play them. You have a couple of options:

A. Download VLC Player or Riva FLV Player (I think they're both on download.com), which will play FLV files directly.

or

B. You can play them in Windows Media Player, if you get the codecs from this site: http://bodifar.wordpress.com/2006/12/08/tutorial-play-all-video-files-including-flv-rm-rmvb-mov-files-in-windows-media-player-easy-way/
- It's in Dutch, but partway down the page it's in English
- Also note the hint for having it play in Windows Media Player instead of Media Player Classic (the default)

Has worked for me most times. However, the resulting file hasn't been playable with QuickTime Player, at lesat on my Mac. I have to open them with a player called VLC, which you can download for free.
