DALLAS - Police arrested the son of an 84-year-old woman Saturday after she was found dead in her home in the 1900 block of McMillan Avenue in Dallas.

Neighbors of Nora Cook called 911 after they said a foul odor was being emitted from the woman's apartment. They also told authorities that Cook had not been seen for about a week.

When officers and Dallas Fire-Rescue workers arrived on the scene, they said they found Cook's body, which showed evidence of blunt force trauma to the neck and head. They said her son, Douglas Cook, was also inside the residence, which is where he lives.

After talking with Cook, authorities arrested him in connection to his mother's death and is being held at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center.

In addition to some psychiatric issues from the past, Cook has also had an alleged history of violence in connection with his mother.

Just friggin' awful. Also, it is completely disgusting. The neighbors thought something was wrong because of the flies that were congregating around the window of the woman's bedroom.
