8. I didn't know that
I used to play it online, and had a good win rate, because so many people were ignorant of how the game works. If all I still had were a four or five square ship on the board, they'd lob bombs at spots where it couldn't possibly fit. Also, the electronic game always separated boats with at least one empty space between them. So if you sank a ship, don't waste your time on the squares adjacent to it.

It amazed me how few people picked up on those very basic concepts.

10. So what you do is, you use the pegs to keep track
of every location your opponent calls out. That way, when they actually do hit one of your ships, you can move them to locations they haven't called yet. My sister did this to me, when I found out I was really pissed - she always won.

12. The white pegs are to keep track of where you call out hits
So you don't repeat the hits. They're not supposed to be for when your opponent calls out hits. And you're certainly not supposed to keep moving your ships around once they've been set.

13. Well, no, moving the ships is a no-no
But you are supposed to mark on your board with the white pegs where your opponent called shots. Red pegs for when they or you hit.

I always beat my SO because he's so linear - he has a tendency to line up his ships in beautifully spaced rows - if you find one, you find them all.

14. yes
moving ships around is cheating
whatever you do with the pegs is irrelevant at that point

15. But if you put the pegs on the same board where your ships are
you can move them to spaces where you know your opponent can't say "Hey, but I called G 14 and you said miss".

6. "America's All Time Favorite Game"
I predict that baseball and football will soon surrender their TV and stadium rights to make room for battleship.

Remember in the 1970s when it seemed like EVERYONE had a battleship room in his or her basement? Oh, wait a minute, those were pool or poker tables.
