OK, I have definitely missed something here:
what the heck is "meme" supposed to mean? I've seen people say "Me, me" but then I look at a phrase like "Kay pre-empted the "world is safer" meme and took it right off the table!" What does it mean? I know the word is loathed, but I must understand.

Please help, I'm not always an idiot...

5. Coined in 1976. Memes don't "just die", either, until they're supplanted
by better memes. Got a better term to describe the concept? Introduce it to the popular vernacular and see if it catches on.
