Confession: I've never been to a Starbucks. Ever.
WindRavenX's post about the pumpkin spice latte has me tempted, though. Closest one is several miles up the road, but I just might try it....
What do I need to know so I don't look completely stupid when I walk in?

1. Carry a New York Times under your arm and make sure you're talking on your cell phone
while the people behind you are waiting for you to order. You'll fit right in. :eyes:

4. Good. Then Bad. Now Better.
We were coasting along, doing the usual we-have-enough-money-but-only-barely bit, then he got fired two weeks ago.
Then they re-hired him two days ago.
Sheesh, what a ride.
Oh! And we got to see VH's opening night, and the next one after.

You?

5. I'm glad for you both
that Shawn was rehired!

All is fine here. It's fall now, cooler and a little less hectic (although the "less hectic" part never lasts long enough). Really, really glad things are better for you guys. :pals:

7. Thanks.
The test is that the guy that fired and rehired him (was forced to rehire? we dunno) is an _______________!!!!!!
Shawn has a challenge to keep his head on straight and I'm trying to keep him focused on the long run.
He is an Aries, after all....
Thanks again for the good wishes.

Think I'm going to head off for a nap now; it's 7:25 AM here and I am finally tired. Still on baby-feeding hours I guess!
Talk to you either later today or probably tommorrow morning.

6. Don't order a large cup of coffee
They have stupid European-sounding names for the sizes of coffee there.

9. Two of the sizes are Italian words and two are English,
and although I speak a little Italian, I find it pretentious as hell.

14. that's why i say, "a large coffee please"
they have regular coffee without foam, water skis, or whatever else they put in it.

they haven't corrected me yet. the one kinda got sketchy, but i told them i'm not participating in their marketing. just gimme a large fucking coffee.

$2.15 at starbucks - the shithole diner across the street charged me $2.35 for a watery cup of brown water. so starbucks had them beat on that one level.

17. I can make in my own kitchen everything that Starbuck's charges a jillion bucks for.
Plus, I _loathe_ pretense. When I lived in Vail/Avon, I couldn't believe the number of customers who were there only to see and be seen. At the same time, I support Starbuck's, if only for the fact that Starbuck's supports some good folks, like DUer WindRavenX. :hi:

20. i agree with you on that
i'm not very domesticated though.

so i usually go out for practically everything. but worse than the pretense are the people who make complicated orders whenever they go out.

the two or three places i go everday, they pretty much just know what i want.

this is what i live on:

-a #3 at dunkin donuts. medium, plain bagel, salmon cream cheese, and cream in the coffee.

-a large coffee at starbucks at lunch.

-2 dbl cheeseburgers, small fries, and a small coke for dinner at least twice a week. other times, there is this awesome deli on the way home and i get potato salad and precooked chicken or something.

you probably didn't want to know all this!

anyway, whenever i live with other people i get more domestic because i like to cook for them or make sure they aren't hungry or that they have a drink.

but when it's just me, the day to day stuff gets to be a hassle because i overload myself with stuff to do and i get burned out and on a cloudy drizzly day like today, i just like to sleep.

16. I also use my own lingo
I ask for a "dark" roast, rather than a "bold". What can I say, I'm a rebel.

11. You should probably get one from Juice & Java instead.
:) Or Coffee & Roses Express. They're a lot better than Starbucks IMO. :D

13. Pumpkin spice late? Meh. Make your own coffee and add pumpkin space to it.
Then it'll cost less, and won't be late either.

15. i volunteered for an oktoberfest thingy put on by one of the local chambers
i'm a member of.

they had a starbucks tent (and down the way a SKOAL tent - go figure!) and they were giving away pumpkin spice lattes.

they were pretty damn good.

18. Go here...
Click the 'toon at the bottom right corner "Small, Medium, Large."

http://www.illwillpress.com/vault.html

It will help put it in perspective.

BTW, I never drink their drip coffee -- it tastes burned to me. But I love the Americano (basically diluted espresso) and the lattes. I'm not much for foofy drinks -- the flavorings do nothing for me. I do confess to a mocha now and then.

Be sure to report back.

21. Never been to a Starbucks either.
Just don't like coffee. It happens. Haven't been in a fast food restaurant of any kind since the mid nineties.
