Rice-A-Roni inventor dies.
Vincent DeDomenico, the son of Italian immigrants who took a family recipe and turned it into Rice-A-Roni - "the San Francisco treat" - and later built and ran the Napa Valley Wine Train, died Thursday in his sleep at home in Napa.

He was 92 and had worked happily until the night he died, his family said. His wife of nearly 60 years was at his side.

Mr. DeDomenico started his second career in 1987, when he was 72....
His next venture would prove to be more of a challenge. Mr. DeDomenico envisioned creating a bustling Wine Train that would run through the valley, making stops in towns and at vineyards along the way. He acquired deteriorating tracks and restored dining cars.

1. Huh. I didn't know there was an inventor of Rice a Roni.
Safe passage, sir. Your Rice Pilaf is a staple here.

6. Like others, I didn't realize this product was from SF and was developed from an Italian recipe

rather than a brainstorming session by a product development team. It really did start out as a "San Francisco treat." Who knew?

5. I didn't know there was an inventor either...
One of the favorite meals in my house is Beef Rice-a-Roni mixed with chop meat and
onion rolls or bread. Sticks to your ribs and is a great winter diner..
