This song hits home... to this day.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df5_F83gB3A

Fool to Cry - Stones

When I come home baby
And Ive been working all night long
I put my daughter on my knee, and she say
Daddy whats wrong?
I put my head on her shoulder
She whispers in my ear so sweet
You know what she says?
Daddy you're a fool to cry
You're a fool to cry
And it makes me wonder why.

You know, I got a woman
And she lives in the poor part of town
And I go see her sometimes
And we make love, so fine
She says, put your head on my shoulder
tell me all your troubles.
You know what she says? she says
Daddy youre a fool to cry
You're a fool to cry
And it makes me wonder why.

Daddy youre a fool to cry
Oh, I love you so much baby
Daddy youre a fool to cry
Daddy youre a fool to cry, yeah
She says, daddy youre a fool to cry
Youre a fool to cry
And it makes me wonder why.

She says, daddy youre a fool to cry
Daddy youre a fool to cry
Daddy youre a fool to cry
Daddy youre a fool to cry

Even my friends say to me sometimes
And make like I dont understand them
You know what they say to me?
know what they say? Daddy you're a fool to cry
You're a fool to cry
You're a fool to cry
And it makes me wonder why.

Im a fool baby
Im a fool baby
Im a certified fool, now
I want to tell ya
Gotta tell ya, baby
Im a fool baby
Im a fool baby
Certified fool for ya, mama, come on
Im a fool
Im a fool
Im a fool

9. Thru and Thru
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azu2zTp0KQA

You know that we do take away
We deliver too
Open 24 hours babe
Just waiting on a call from you
Waiting on a call from you

Well Im in the yellow pages
You just take a look
Look me up under services
You know its just an open book
Babe its just an open book
Its just an open book
Well baby

Any minute, any hour
Im waiting on a call from you
And you know this heart is constant
Im your lover, baby
Thru and thru
Lover, baby, thru and thru

I only found out yesterday
I heard it on the news
What I heard really pissed me off
Cause now I got those fucking blues
I got those awesome blues
Babe I got those nothing blues

Any minute, any hour
Im waiting on a call from you
And you know this heart is constant
Im your lover, baby
Thru and thru
Lover, baby, thru and thru

You know that we do take-away
That we deliver, too
Were open 24 hours, baby
Were waiting on a call from you
But any minute, baby, any hour
Im waiting on a call from you
You know that this heart is constant
Im your lover, baby
Thru and thru
Lover, baby, thru and thru
Lover, baby, thru and thru
Lover, baby, thru and thru

Yeah, "Gimme Shelter" is also in my top 5. Best heard at the end of the Maysles Bros. documentary "Gimme Shelter," over the final footage and the credits. A stark, poignant coda to the '60s, via Altamont. But a haunting song no matter where it's heard.

Oh yeah: Steelers 35, Ravens 14, Monday Night Football.

46. It's because he wasn't getting credited for anything...
While Keef was too heroined out to write anything, Mick T. contributed a large amount of work to no less than three Stones albums and only got partial credit for one song.

The Glimmer Twins were notorious for stiffing others out of credit for songs (Ron Wood has complained about this in interviews) and I can easily see why Mick would quit over this.

Plus I heard him say once "I quit the band because I wanted to live". He apparently turned from teetotaler to alcoholic throughout the course of his career in the Stones, and wanted to maintain his sobriety.

54. I've heard him give those reasons, but unfortunately I have also heard his solo records...
artistically, he was good for the Rolling Stones and they were good for him.
He's an exquisite player, but left to his own devices, he is absolutely wretched.
And, of course, with his departure and the introduction of Ronnie Wood, the Rolling Stones began their long adventure into pathetic self-parody

Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 09:09 AM by SteppingRazor
Because it has my favorite line of any Stones song:
"The sunshine bores the daylights out of me."

But really, that's one of those albums that should be listened to from start to finish. So many good ones -- Sweet Virginia, Torn and Frayed, Tumblin' Dice, etc., etc.

55. Good One -- lyrics added
I was driving home early sunday morning through bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, you know you always have the
Lord by your side

And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you jesus, thank you lord

I had an arrangement to meet a girl, and I was kind of late
And I thought by the time I got there shed be off
Shed be off with the nearest truck driver she could find
Much to my surprise, there she was sittin in the corner
A little bleary, worse for wear and tear
Was a girl with far away eyes

So if youre down on your luck
And you cant harmonize
Find a girl with far away
And if youre downright disgusted
And life aint worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of jesus
Located somewhere in los angeles, california
And next week theyd say my prayer on the radio
And all my dreams would come true
So I did, the next week, I got a prayer with a girl
Well, you know what kind of eyes she got

So if youre down on your luck
I know you all sympathize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if youre downright disgusted
And life aint worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

Nothing matches the first time "I was bawwwwwwnnnn...in a cross fa huh cayyyyyyyynnnnn..." came blasting out of my dad's AM car radio.

"Satisfaction" has that riff, but "JJF" was the moment in which the Stones lifted their hind leg and sprayed America, forever marking it as "their territory."

Though anything from the Mick Jones-era (1969-74)Stones you can throw in here and I wouldn't argue too much. "Moonlight Mile" is just a beautful (and beautifully constructed and played)song, and was a perfect ending to "Sticky Fingers", their best Album:

68. Waiting on a friend
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdDfVklg7WU

Watching girls go passing by
It aint the latest thing
Im just standing in a doorway
Im just trying to make some sense
Out of these girls go passing by
The tales they tell of men
Im not waiting on a lady
Im just waiting on a friend

A smile relieves a heart that grieves
Remember what I said
Im not waiting on a lady
Im just waiting on a friend
Im just waiting on a friend

Dont need a whore
I dont need no booze
Dont need a virgin priest
But I need someone I can cry to
I need someone to protect
Making love and breaking hearts
It is a game for youth
But Im not waiting on a lady
Im just waiting on a friend

Although I would sure like to see a video of them playing this song with Mick Taylor. He was exquisite on it.
