My son asked to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra

He's only 11. Given the stuff he normally listens to, I was surprised, but over a few days he kept insisting, and so I got tickets. We live where they're opening their 2007 tour, so it was only 20 minutes away.

We just saw them tonight. Holy shit, what a show. I mean, I grew up watching Talking Heads and Santana and Clapton and Doobies and the Stones, and I recognize that was some time ago, and back then you just had alternating fixed colored lights. I've never seen a synchronized light show like this, and although the little Christmas thing they did in the first half was a bit of a snoozer (but they're known for the xmas stuff), the rest of the show rocked. And it was his first concert, at 11. My first concert was at 15 and it was frickin' Journey, of all things.

4. I think he's seen them as part of a school trip.
*I* haven't however, and would like to. I think they're based around here (greater Boston area).

3. That is cool
My son's first concert was the Rolling Stones in the Fall of 2006. He was 14. I took him and a couple of his friends.

7. It's for people who can't handle Mannheim Steamroller.
TSO chops phrases into little bitty pieces with a distorted guitar. Then they beat on it for a long time without changing it. Short attention span.

At my church, after Thanksgiving dinner we all gather round the piano and sing all the Xmas carols to "House of the Rising Sun". It's more fun that way.

Really, a bunch of bored Unitarians.

10. Sid's first was the DSO playing Wagner.
He was about 9. He left the hall skipping up the aisle going "Da DUM DUMda DUM daDUM!!!" (Ride of the Valkyries).

He's turning 20 now, and will be coming to Thanksgiving Dinner with his Fiance.
