Today's media class was on the internet. Kill me now.
First of all, during the lecture, it became clear that our instructor doesn't really understand the internet. And she's the school's webmistress. This made many mysteries clear. So we learned some interesting "facts" like that a faster alternative to fiber optic is being developed (faster than light? General Relativity says no. I don't think she's clear on the distinction between speed and bandwidth.)

But then she put in a videotape.

Yeah. A videotape. About the internet.

I was afraid.

I'm not saying it was dated, but

1. It showed the WTC. Because when it was filmed, it was there.

2. "In the future, the web will support full motion video with instantaneous downloading, or 'streaming video'"

3. "In the future, technologies for transfer of money will facilitate online shopping."

4. The computers the l33t haxors were shown using had 5 1/4" floppies and 14" crts.

5. They were hacking pagers. Swear to god.

That's two hours of my life I'll never get back.

6. That's funny, but
things are changing SO fast. Have you seen the video "Shift Happens"? One of the points it makes is that technology is changing so fast that things learned in the 1st year of college will be outdated by the 3rd or 4th year.

11. I'm thinking of a Conan O'Brian "In the Year 2000" sketch right about now...
In the Year Two Thousand...

Cellular telephones will shrink to the size of a brick!

In the Year Two Thousand...

Computer hard drives may top 50 gigabytes!

In the Year Two Thousand...

The Zip drive will totally replace floppy discs!

In the Year Two Thousand...

After curing cancer, scientists create a boner pill!

In the Year Two Thousand...

Cars will drive themselves!

15. Is it too late to drop the class?
The tone of the comments makes it seem like you're just starting, but the fact that it's November would seem to imply otherwise.
