So I baked my first pie ever
I had a friend visiting my new place and I thought "I'm gonna bake a pie". Mind you, never baked a pie before in my life. I found this great recipe on the back of a splenda box and thoughtit would make a really great pie.

Well, it helps if I read the instructions. I just assumed one can of cherry pie filling would do the trick. I also assumed that fresh fruit would work but the blueberries I bought were looking kinda natty by the time I got around to baking the pie.

So I toss my lame-ass can of pie filling in the pie and scrounged around for whatever else I could put in there. Rummaging through my cuboards came up with a jar of Lingonberry perserves I bought on a whim from Ikea.

And then my friend cancelled.

Now I'm stuck with this pie that even I'm afraid to try, but I did and well, the best I could say was that it truly didn't suck that badly.

1. If you top it with enough whipped cream it won't matter how good or bad the pie was. :)

You better LOVE the pie.. Pie #1.. The Pie Success :headbang:

I made two sweet potato pies last week, they were like #5 and #6 of pies I've made, EVER.

3. you never now until you try!
Now you are on your way and can bake more pies!

Pies are pretty easy and fun to make. Esp. if you aren't a pie crust purist. (I buy the pre-made ones despite being taught to make one from scratch.)

Congratulations!

7. I bought pre-made crusts but...
I would love to learn how to make my own.

My mother can bake a blueberry pie with nothing but splenda. This pie will allow my niece, a diabetic since age 6, to enjoy pie with the rest of the family. Plus Splenda adds fewer carbs to the deal. I also only use whole wheat organic flour. So learning how to make my own pie crusts will hopefully provide a healthier pie, if that's feasible

10. Crusts are easy...
once you get the hang of it, it's a snap. Not as easy as unrolling a premade crust, but still.

9. I've only made three pie crusts from scratch
The first one worked, the second one didn't, and I had my mom's help for the third last week.

pumpkin, for Thanksgiving. store bought the crust, but it turned out pretty darn good.

I would recommend pumpkin or apple for a first pie attempt. the recipe on the canned pumpkin is pretty easy, and darn tasty. apple pie isnt that difficult either, just dont use the canned stuff.

8. Only one problem - I hate pumpkin
My grandmother made amazing pies. But everytime I visit she'd always make a pumpkin pie stating she made it just for me because I loved pumpkin pies.

Only problem was that I hated pumpkin pies; my brother and mother both loved them but not me.

I wolfed down more pumpkin pie. Thank goodness for milk to get that stuff down. But to this day, I refuse to eat pumpkin pie

11. I only made one pie this year... pumpkin of course.
Booooooring. Next I'm making lemon chess. Now that's some good pie. (We'll see if the kids agree.)

You really should be proud you just threw some stuff together and it came out not so bad. If I don't have a detailed recipe I'm useless.
