Life hasn't been as good since I learned "irregardless" isn't a real word
Edited on Thu Dec-06-07 10:40 AM by PeterU
Face it, "irregardless" flows off the tongue so much better than "regardless" or "notwithstanding" or "irrespective" (yuck!). It has almost a musical quality to it...irregardless....irregardless...

Dammit! Damn the loss of my innocent blissful ignorance on this word (or non-word, rather.)

Has anyone else's life been shattered upon the realization of this fact?

2. It is a word, but it is a redundant, nonstandard combination
of irrespective and regardless, according to my grammar manual.

6. It is the name of a restaurant in Raleigh.
So I guess it is as much a word as any other proper noun. Saved on a technicality. Feel free to resume formerly good life.

15. I hate to burst your bubble, but "misunderestimated" isn't a word either.
Nor, for that matter, is "Hispanically". :dunce:

20. You must have lived a very sad life....
For a while, I was living in a veritable Garden of Eden, free from the worries of wondering if words which mean "despite what was just said before" are proper terminology or Junk English.

19. Well, sorry, it is indeed not a word, irregardless of your fondness for it. But at least you
CARE, unlike some people who would say: "Ah, so it's not a word. I could care less."

Or people who would observe that life is comprised of little disappointments like this one.

Hey, I gotta run. I need to take some chicken out of the freezer so it can (yes, I actually HAVE heard people say this) unthaw.
