World War III - 1st Round Tournament Brackets
Edited on Sun Dec-09-07 01:00 PM by ThoughtCriminal
Based on "Global Fire Power Rankings" from:
http://www.globalfirepower.com

Let's take a look at first round matches. Remember - nuclear weapons are not permitted until the semi-finals!

----------
1 - United States
16 - Iran

Coach Cheney was quite excited about drawing Iran in the first round.
----------

2 - Russia
15 - Canada

Russia was hoping to start with a 3rd-World country in the 1st round. Canada wishes it was hockey.
----------

3 - China
14 - Mexico

China's 14:1 ratio in Military personel is going to be hard for Mexico to overcome.
----------

4 - India
13 - Indonesia

India has big leads in almost every department (Spending, personel, armor, artilley, aircraft)
----------

5 - Germany
12 - South Korea

One of the most interesting 1st round match-ups. Both countries anticipated a fight for some time - just with somebody else.
----------

6 - France
11 - Italy

The 1st round's only neighboring countries.
----------

7 - Japan
10 - Great Britain

A re-match from WW-2
----------

8 - Turkey
9 - Brazil

WTF?

11. One Shining Moment...
Edited on Mon Dec-10-07 07:00 PM by KamaAina
The nuclear-tipped
missiles there are
you're running for your life
you're a shooting star
And all the years
no one knows
how many you killed
but now it shows...
(in) ONE SHINING MOMENT, IT'S ALL ON THE LINE
ONE SHINING MOMENT, THERE FROZEN IN TIME

4. And Now analysis from Jimmy the Geek! and a prieview of the 2nd confrence matchups.
1 - United States
16 - Iran
---------------------------------
This one could go either way. If Iran can effectivly deploy sunburn missiles, it's Good-bye US Navy. No Navy, Iran will have a much Easier time. I pick Iran to pull of the major upset.

2 - Russia
15 - Canada
---------------------------------
This is a sure, bet folks. Russia's gonna roll right over the Canadians.

3 - China
14 - Mexico
---------------------------------
Another Sure Bet. Mexico does not have a prayer.

4 - India
13 - Indonesia
---------------------------------
This one's going to be interesting. India seems to have the advantage here, however, they're going to be bogged down island hopping, which coach Patil says has been their biggest weakness this season, meaning this could be a good one. I pick India on a squeaker.

5 - Germany
12 - South Korea
---------------------------------
This is going to be good. The best main battle tanks and combat equipment in the world face off against a country that has been preparing for a major fight for over 50 years. However, without the US to bail them out, Germany's gonna kicking ass like it's 1939. I pick Germany.

6 - France
11 - Italy
---------------------------------
France has some major rage here over the World Cup loss and is looking for revenge. Also, with 2 CATOBAR Aircraft carriers going up agaisnt one VSTOL Carrier, I thing France is going to rule the day here. I think they are going to go quite far in this tournament. Viva la France!

7 - Japan
10 - Great Britain
---------------------------------
Britannia still rules the waves, baby! Since the Japanese "Self Defense Forces" have no antiship missile capability and very, very little boots on the ground combat experience, expect the Union Flag and White Ensign to fly over Tokyo very Quickly.

8 - Turkey
9 - Brazil
---------------------------------
This is simple folks, Brazil has a carrier, and will beat Turkey by well, a Brazillion!

And now for Division 2!

1 Israel
16 Switzerland
---------------------------------
This is going to be a bloodbath, folks. Switzerland is the most underrated country in this tournament. Switzerland's Citizen Soldiers will roll all over the Israelis. There's a reason that nobody fucks with the Swiss.

2 Finland
15 Sweden
---------------------------------
Give this one to the Finns, these guys have a history of kicking ass and taking names when they get pissed off, and there's a lot of bad blood between these two teams.

3 Poland
14 Ireland
---------------------------------
It will all come down to which side's soldiers actually remember to pull the pins on their grenades before throwing them. I'm giving this one to the Irish.

4 Pakistan
13 Egypt
---------------------------------
This is going to close to call, folks I say go with your gut and cross your fingers on this one. I'm picking Egypt to pull off the upset.

5 South Africa
12 New Zealand
---------------------------------
Talk about your rivalries. Springboks vs. All Blacks. I'll give this one to South Africa, they've been looking strong this combat season and have good hustle.

6 Australia
11 Argentina
--------------------------------
I pick Australia. They've been looking strong, and are going up against the most ovverated nation in this tournament. I predict a repeat of the 1982 match against the UK.

7 Thailand
10 North Korea
--------------------------------
Two nations, two batshit crazy leaders, one with a definite manpower advantage. I'm still giving this one to the Thais, All they need to do is bring on the food aid, and the starving North Koreans will desert in droves.

8 Ethiopia
9 Venezuela
--------------------------------
Ethiopia, is fresh off a huge victory in Somalia, and has "uncle mo'" on their side, but Coach Chavez has managed to build up some good stockpiles of technologically advanced ordinance over the season, including some very key offseason trades with China, Russia, and Brazil. I pick Venezuela to pull of the upset.

6. They will have to check conference rules regarding nukes
A pre-tournament nuclear war might knock them down in the rankings - especially if China loans a few ringers.

7. Of course, the No. 1 U.S. comes into this matchup a bit banged up
from that overtime game with Iraq...

8. I'm a bit disappointed - an experienced mid-major like Israel doesn't get in?
They've got experience, they have lots on contact drills and scrimmage games around their region. They're like the Butler or Southern Illinois: no respect in the rankings.

12. Yeah - worse than the BCS - Need a better ranking system
I just noticed this note under the GPF rankings:

"NOTE: Nuclear weapons, past and current military experience, unit training and equipment quality are not taken into account. This is a ranking based soley on the reported numbers presented throughout this site based from official disclosed public sources."

Maybe they will get it straightened out in time for WW-4.
