I'm watching the entire Barney Miller series from the beginning.
It was a great show when it started, but it seemed to lose most of its passion and real creativity by season 4, with the departure of Fish (Abe Vigoda, whom, I understand, is still alive). Right now I'm halfway through season 5, and the set seems empty- almost blank. It's become boring. Don't know if I'll be able to go to the end. I'm at the approximate point where Jack Soo passed away from esophageal cancer. That was a real loss to the world, and to the series. Barney Miller was never the same again after he left us.

A hell of a lot of great character actors visited the series- some appeared first as criminals then returned later on to become cast members and cops. Some fill-in cop characters seemed to appear and disappear quickly with no explanation. That was a real weakness in the series.

Hard to believe, I know.

However, OTOH, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead!

I had forgotten all about him until you mentioned him.

What an amazing show.

5. Yeah, I loved Barney Miller
but haven't seen an episode in years. I especially liked the guests who played the criminals/crime victims. some were recurring and were really funny.

7. I'm the same way.
Didn't care for it when I was a kid--just didn't get it. Now, I get it, it's freakin' funny. Same with the Bob Newhart show.

8. and also for me, "all in the family" an one of my all time favorite lines was from Archie
Edit got Stephanie some lip gloss because she was going to a school dance so Archie looks at her and says "whats next Edith, you gonna buy her some rouge a street lamp, huh"

9. I am not a tv person. But I like many of the episodes of that show.
:)

If I ever get stuck in front of a TV I wouldn't mind if that that show is on.
