Anyone else haunted by dreams of a former workplace?

I dreamed last night I was working at a school where I worked 20-something years ago. The kids came into the room. I’d had something planned but I couldn’t find the book I needed. I kept looking and looking through the material, which was all old and shabby. The kids got restless and finally there were just two girls left in the room. They told me everyone else had gotten bored and left.

I have dreams about this job from time to time. Always the materials are old and shabby (they were in RL), I don’t know what I’m doing, and just want to be somewhere else. In RL I hated that job, which is why I got out of that line of work.

What do these dreams mean? Man, it’s bad enough I had to live through this once! Anyone have similar dreams?

1. Yes, I do
I first worked in a video store back in the mid 80s.

Every so often, when I'm really stressed in the present day, I go back there and restock videotapes. And of course you never stop doing that. There are always videos to put away.

2. The only old place I dream about
is the house I grew up in. I was miserable living there for a whole lot of family reasons, but it's not an unhappy place when I dream about it.

4. I dream sometimes about waking up in the dark of a cold winter morning
in my crappy one-room apartment, having to face another shitty day as a sales rep for a company that sold sales-training seminars to car dealerships.

What a soul-killing time of my life. When I wake up from these quasi-nightmares, I nearly melt with relief that it's all in the past...

6. I retired five years ago
But I frequently dream I am at work where I am overwhelmed with impossible-to-finish tasks. Then at some point in the dream, I realize that I am retired and I can go home!

7. Very often...Restaurants!
For some 17 years, I worked in restaurants - managing, bartending, but most often as a waiter.

Though my last stint in foodservice was over a decade ago, in my dreams I'll find myself in a restaurant where I worked 25 years ago...often, the dream-restaurants are compilations of several from my past, with interchangeable co-workers.

In these dreams, I usually show up for my shift to find my section already packed...a dozen tables, angry and waiting to order. Then, my pencil usually breaks as I try to write their orders, or the paper I'm writing on keeps tearing...I'm so far in the weeds that I'll never recover. Oh, and sometimes I'm missing my pants, too.
