5. Watch him in series 1 of Doctor Who (2005)

He's a con man who puts personal pleasure and selfishness over everything else. (the creator and writer of the character putting in every stereotype imaginable.) In the finale of that season, "The Parting of the Ways", do we see Jack finally give a damn about something other than himself.

That's what I liked about his character development.
