Danny Johnson feeds cattle pellets Thursday to some of the elk he is caring for on a ranch near Roland. Johnson has been struggling to keep the herd of about 80 animals fed for several months since losing contact with the owner of the property.

the elk aren't registered with the state so they are in quarantine for wasting disease.

I dunno what the state's position is on them if they were abandoned and no one cared for them, my guess is they would kill them. :(

don't know that for sure, but they can't be sold or moved because of the quarantine
