Why is it that Colleges and Universities have MLK Day off but not President's Day?
It is because they have much longer breaks between semesters. The K-12 schools around here have both days off although some might use President's Day as a replacement teacher in service day to make up for snow days.

1. traditionally most colleges go back into spring session the day after MLK day
so I figure it's just a case of eh, what's one more day of vacation after having a straight month off. President's Day comes later and I guess it would screw with the class schedule if it was given off

2. Some colleges around here start (or start later) this week

MLK Day is a weak later this year. Usually they start anywhere from a week before to a two days after it. Don't those who start before MLK Day have their schedules thrown off? Most government (or taxpayer funded) institutions have both days off. Is it political correctness?

3. Damn, that'd be nice.
Down here in Florida, state colleges like mine went back into session last Monday, after three weeks of winter break. Apparently, we get shorted, as opposed to most of the nation.

4. Very few presidents have been as worth honoring as MLK is.
Besides, President's Day is traditionally celebrated with mattress sales.

6. Why do we have "presidents day" instead of
Lincoln's birthday and Washington's birthday, both of which used to be federal holidays? Come to think of it, why are there only 6 official holidays on my employer's calendar, and why are two of those overtly jeebusized?

Fuckin' 'murka - always with the working, never with the playing.

7. Why don't veterans get Veterans Day off?
Unless they work for a bank or the post office.

8. Pfft, I don't get either.
My university's way of declaring its allegiance to the Catholic Church is to give us one holiday off in a year: Good Friday, which, this year, falls during spring break. :eyes:

11. At Ohio State
President's Day and Columbus Day are "saved" to give the staff Christmas Eve and the Friday after Thanksgiving as days off.
