4. I think it is a farce
real lie detection would be hard to do in front of a live audience

lie detection measures:

galvanic skin response (sweat gland activity basically)

blood pressure and heart rate changes

breathing rate changes

those things are going to be affected to start with by nervousness

so the lie detector would start out with a real disadvantage in being able to detect anything but the nervousness of the participant.

Well that's my take on it

As far as the show as a concept, it is stupid, yeah, just like a lot of reality shows are.

15 minutes of fame, for what?

Montel devotes his show to paternity tests

Jerry Springer, well we won't even go there

and evening reality shows, well, I just don't like them much.

Remember the movie "Running Man" where prisoners were dealt justice in front of a live audience?

Sometimes I think we are headed that direction. Kinda like "throw 'em to the lions"

So I agree that the show is looney and doubt that it will even work, and imagine it to be a farce to start with because of the reasons stated above, but the concept is destructive.

6. They're not doing it in front of a live audience.
I'm watching it now. The lie detection test is done ahead of time and they have tested them on 50 questions and they're going to ask them 21. That said, I have my doubts about how good the lie detection test can be anyway.

And as for why I'm watching it, well, I'm bored.... :D
