Speaking of carseats, yesterday I saw a woman driving
with two VERY young children in the front seat of her car. I say VERY young, as from where I was (directly next to her) I could see the top half of one child's head and the very top of the other child's head through the window.

No car seat. No seatbelt. Nobody sitting in the back.

:wtf:

If you're going to have kids, or you're going to run someone's kids around, get the appropriate number of carseats and set them up correctly. I mean, if YOU want to sail through the front windshield in this Lord Humungous traffic battlefield we call Tampa, then fine. It's your face. Don't jeopardize little kids that don't know better. It's not like a 3 year old is going to say "momma/grandma, shouldn't I be in a DOT approved carseat?" you moron.

And what of the third party if there were an accident? Fault or not, to put the burden of the injury/death of two innocents on another person/family because of your ignorance and stupidity is cruel.

This rant sponsored by Orrex' carseat thread.

1. Seriously.
You can buy good quality, expensive carseats very cheaply if you're willing to buy them used. So many people have carseats they no longer need that they're readily available. There's no excuse for not having enough carseats at this point.

2. This happened a couple of years ago:
LK, OC and I are in the car on our way to fuck-if-I-remember where. We're stopped at a stop sign when a family goes the other direction in a new minivan on Winding way, Mom's in the front seat with a kid who's maybe 6 on her lap. There is NOBODY in the back seat.

Now two things could happen to lap kid in an accident. Either there's a seatbelt on, and mom in one direction and the airbag in the other grind this kid into very fine powder, or the kid goes out the window. Now they don't call Winding way that for nothing, so it's probably not the best place to be fucking around with a kid's safety.

So what did we do? We pulled up behind them, got their plate number and called the cops. We were behind them for three blocks. On the fourth a black and white lit them up so we went on our merry way.

I've never been so happy to see the CHP in my life.

4. I see this all the time.
We should have a hotline for this kind of thing. If you see it, call the tag number in.
