What have you been listening to lately?
Only my 10,000 Maniacs compilation called Campfire Songs today. Also yesterday, I heard the excellent new Mindy Smith CD.

I've also heard more on the internet:

Courtney Love - America's Sweetheart (from the AOL/Netscape listening party - the first half is good to very good, but some of the second half is bland. So far as a big fan, I'd have to give it a B. Still worth buying, especially for fans like me.)

samples from:

Melissa Etheridge - Lucky (sounded awful - what has happened to her? A D from what I heard.)

Norah Jones - Feels Like Home (sounds a little overly subtle this time - but has definite highlights. A B from what I heard.)

23. I'm biased
It's up to the usual high standards of King Crimson.

Some of it is beautifully melodic, some of it out metals metal bands.
There's also quite a few passages where... how to describe this?.... where Fripp & Belew intertwine their playing like this, imagine a 16 note riff. Fripp plays 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16; Belew plays 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15 ....Except not exactly that since Fripp plays 8 notes in 4/4 time and Belew actually only plays 7 in 7/8 time. (I read a transcription of this on a website)& for up until the end the two guitars alternate, but then on the last note they hit on the same beat--- and then repeat again 16 more notes. Very technical but also beautiful.

stuff like that and some of the lyrics are quite humorous.

7. Fursaxa
She just released a new LP (yes...LP!!!) on Time-Lag called "Madrigals in Duo" that is absolutely stunning. On another label, Eclipse records, they just reissued her first CDR called "Mandrake"

Rather obscure, but really really good...for fans of folky-psychedelic-trance!!!

9. No - what did she say?
Her CD is an early contender for my Best of 2004 list.

24. Today I listened to Bjork "Vespertine" on my walk to work.
At home, I've been watching/listening to "The Kids Are Alright" reissue. It's fantastic. Last night, I viewed the John Entwhistle isolated camera and bass track to "Won't Get Fooled Again". Unbelievable. What a great bass player. It was really cool to just be able to watch and listen to the Ox iso'd in all of his 1978 glory.

Fun stuff.
