My cellphone sucks, what should I replace it with?
I have one of those kinds that uses a sim-card. If I get another one, I want it to be usable in W Europe and the US. Any suggestions?

What GSM numbers do I need? My current one has GSM 850 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900

4. You can get an unlocked iPhone
and use it with your current service.

T-Mobile is a German company, so I'd imagine that it would satisfy your Europe requirement.

If you want to get out of your contract, you can always try the "I'm moving" trick. Look on your carrier's coverage map and find a place that's not in it. Call your carrier and tell them you're moving there. Most of the time they let you out of your contract.

I have actually participated in the unlocking of an iPhone if you have any questions. We had it working on T-Mobile too. The Catch... If you want DATA over the cell network it will cost, however, the Wi-Fi will still work when at a hotspot.

5. At least one of those four bands cover Europe
But you may need to get an additional sim card for Europe.

What phone do you have? What features do you want? How hard are you on gadgets?

I just kicked my LG C2000 to the curb because the ringer stopped working and the speaker in the earpiece was cutting out.

I got a used RAZR V3XX and so far I really like it. I did not want to sign up for another 2 year contract, which is why I got a used phone.

Make sure, if you get a used phone, that it is unlocked for your carrier.

7. Yeah. The thing is that my current phone is crapping out. I can't seem to get calls to go through.
I chose this phone because it had those 4 bands. I'm just wondering what I can most cheaply replace it with in order to have a functioning phone again.

8. Check craigslist - seriously.
There are a lot of people looking to unload fairly new phones on our craigslist here. Another place to look is on eBay, if you are buying a used phone.

14. Two tin cans and string.
Works about as well as half the cell phones out there.
