Our lightning fast tax system!
Seriously, no kidding. My accountant e-filed my fed & state taxes on Saturday. Today I got my state refund direct deposited and my fed taxes directly withdrawn from the checking account. Total time: 4 days, including Sunday and President's Day this past Monday.

I am impressed! And now I can get on with things...I used the leftover money (from what was set aside for taxes) from my contract programming work last year to wipe out a credit card yesteday. woohoo! ~6 more months to credit card freedom. 1 more month after that to paying off my car a year early.

1. Yeah, well....
the IRS has just informed me that I owe them money from the year 2003.

Nothing fast about that !!!

Of course, interest is a big factor, I assume.

2. They take out a payment due
much faster than they pay out a refund -- although that's a lot better than it was pre-internets.

3. Did you have to pay extra to e-file?

4. I have in the past
I've used TurboTax in the past, which gives you the option of mailing a paper return or e-filing for something like $25, but I think the efiling fee is to Intuit and not the IRS. I don't think the IRS allows just anyone to efile without a middle man but I could be very wrong.

I used an accountant this year who e-filed for me and everything is just part ofhis fee. I had consulting income and needed help figuring out deductions for Schedule C.

8. Was the rebate included?
Or do you have to wait until later for that? I don't normally have to file taxes, but will this year for my little rebate.
