4. No, I think we have a serious attempt to understand the "ins" of the Lounge here, and this
is a teachable moment, TZ!

2. It involves a lot of math
11 (eleven) is the natural number following 10 and preceding 12. It is the first number which cannot be represented by a human counting his or her eight fingers and two thumbs additively (although it can be represented in a variety of other ways using human bodily parts, such as counting additively with the twenty digits including the toes, using the thumb to count the finger phalanges of one hand additively up to twelve, or using the fingers in one hand to count up to fifteen binarily). Eleven is the smallest positive integer requiring three syllables in English, and it is also the largest prime number with a single-morpheme name in this language (although etymologically the word eleven originated from a Germanic compound *ainlif meaning "one left"

3. What specifically don't you understand?
Generally speaking, the fascination with the number 11 comes from this scene in the movie "This is Spinal Tap":

If you are talking about the exclamations coupled with "ELEVENS", that is akin to:

zOMG!!!!!1111!! (instead of typing 4 ones, type "elevens"; get it: *2* elevens, or just "elevens")

5. Keyboards, math, and grammar
Someone already answered, but here's a more condescending answer. Please do not take offense:

Open word, notepad, wordpad or whatever you like to type in. Press the key (main keyboard, not 10-key pad) with a "1" on it. You should get this:
1

Now, press and hold the button labeled "Shift" and press the same "1" key. Your document should now read:
1!

Press "Enter" twice to begin a new line with a line break in the middle.

Type "zOMG" (you are clearly shocked for this exercise) followed by a string of 7 exclamation points (Shift+1). You should have
1!

zOMG!!!!!!!

Now, press the space bar a few times and repeat, only this time, imagine that your pinky left the "Shift" button one exclamation point early (a common typing mistake). You now have
1!

zOMG!!!!!!! zOMG!!!!!!1

Now, imagine that not only are you incredibly enthusiastic in your "zOMG," requiring far more than seven exclamation points to fully convey your meaning (lets say 15), but that your "shift" button broke from the strain of repeated use after the 5th exclamation point. Start a new line (with line break) and type accordingly.
1!

zOMG!!!!!!! zOMG!!!!!!1

zOMG!!!!!1111111111

Imagine if you will, that the ten 1s are divided in groups of two and separated from the exclamation points, and the other groups of two.
zOMG!!!!!11 11 11 11 11

Here's the math part: two 1s constitute the number eleven as I'm sure you've known your whole life.
Here's the grammar part: the plural of something necessitates an "s" at the end of the word in most cases, plural of "eleven" is "elevens"

"zOMG!!!!!1111111111" can be thus abbreviated as "zOMG!!!!!ELEVENS" and still convey the same meaning. Any exclamation points following "elevens" would be if the keyboardist realized their fault and switched to the other "shift" key which is fortuitously still functional. If the keyboardist is unfortunate enough to have their "1" key break, but are still enthusiastic beyond what they have typed, they may substitute the letter "l" in place. The letter "l" would be capitalized (L) if they pressed the "Caps Lock" button before typing "OMG" to stave off "shift" button failure.

7. This is how it evolved in my little cultural context.
First it was people using multiple explanation points, in a fit of excitement / fury / intensity:

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then, it was noticed that people would often those their hold on the shift key after a long string of exclamation points resulting in the accidental "1" typo:

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Occasionally, you would see someone who was obviously pounding on their keyboard in some kind of hysterical fury, leading to inconsistent holding of the shift key:

OMG!!!!!11!!11!!111!

This led to mocking. People began to do this on purpose as a way of mocking others. As this evolved, people began to evolve the sarcasm as well -- adding the word "ONE" into the mix as part of the humor / mockery:

OMG!!!!1!!!111ONE!!1

And in the continuing evolution, peopled started the "ELEVENS" thing to refer to a continuing string of ones:

OMG!!1!ONE!!!ELEVENS

12. Excellent explanation...you left out the last step of the evolution, though
Overuse to the point where all humor has been leached out and only tedium remains.
