Technologically savvy people: Does something like this exist?
What I'm looking for is a tablet sized (say eight or nine by eleven) slate/computer that I can write on, that will recognize my handwriting, and transfer it into something that I can upload to my computer.

Also, I would love to down load things like passwords, essential phone numbers and addresses to this thing as well.

It would not be like a laptop, but more like a large palm top or PDA or Apple Newton.

Unfortunately, I'm so ignorant of new technology, I don't know if this thing ever existed or does now exist.

Thanks in advance for any response.

2. There is a small company in Oregon that makes software to recognize handwriting.

It is in Hood River, Oregon.

About ten years ago, when I worked for a web design company, we made a pitch to them.

The company is Signature Software.

On edit: Not sure this is what you are looking for, but here's some of the information.

This is the best link: http://www.vletter.com/

Kind of interesting view of their company! --- See below...

4. I have a digimemo

I don't think it would do all that you would like.

It's great for me, I can have it with me, write stuff and upload to computer later.
Instead of post its, I write on this at work . . (for personal stuff for me)

I end up saving as jpg and insert in emails, etc.

6. My wife named hers.
She bought a Fujitsu Lifebook a few years back, with the Microsoft Tablet PC operating system. She loves writing, and although she types a million words a minute, finds it useful switch to handwriting sometimes.

Sounds as though this is exactly what you want. The OCR really does work, once you teach it your handwriting style.
