Frozen grandeur at Mackinaw City
Massive waves froze during a cold spell, otherwise known as Winter 2008. Who says the Great Lakes aren't impressive?

2. Wow
That's amazing.

Wondered how exactly that happens since "waves" don't get that big around Mackinac City (do they ever? I could be wrong there.)

Looks like this is how they build. Very cool.

4. They do in bad storms
Waves have even sloshed over the Mackinac Bridge in bad storms; not in the middle of course but at both ends. It can get pretty fierce; when the wind can swing the bridge back and forth it can churn up some pretty impressive waves.

6. I hope nobody from the southwest tries to hack it off and ship it to Arizona
They want our water really bad.

12. I just got this pic in an email
claiming it was in antarctica. Living on Lake Michigan, I'm pretty sure this could never happen here, we don't get cold enough to freeze waves like this. If anybody finds out the true origin, post it, I would like to know.

13. See Bif's post above
Apparently it's an urban legend claiming to be Michigan when it's actually Antarctica.

15. Plus they're glaciers, not frozen waves
But they are very cool, nonetheless.
