7. Montreal is lovely. Go visit Lachine sometime. Out of the downtown but has
a character all its own.

8. We went rollerblading at the park there a few years ago
My family lives there. We've visited in the summer, but never been there in the winter. Should be interesting. :P

12. Thanks!
Teh Lounge will have a place to crash as soon as we get our own domicile - we're landing at my sister's for a few weeks first.

2. Don't forget...
Your landing papers
List of assets
Goods to follow (i.e., everything you think you may ever want to bring across)

I'm probably forgetting something, too. Did this 17 years ago.

Oh, yeah... just leave the guns behind.

5. We're taking everything - and driving ourselves
so no goods to follow. The cats are getting there ahead of us.

Gun? Selling it as soon as I can find it. I dismantled it and it rests in at least 4 pieces in the garage in boxes we never unpacked. :P

We have to present the cars to U.S. Customs on the way up, so no telling. :P

I have no idea what they're looking for these days. The s.o. gets a double skate because 1) we're married and 2) of expertise in a technical field.

Check it out anyway - you never know.

13. If McCain wins this fall . . .
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 06:02 PM by Brigid
I may just have to consider doing the same, if they'll have me. I her the job market in Toronto, where I would probably want to settle, is pretty good. The paperwork doesn't look that bad to me -- but then that's easy for me to say, because I don't have a car, and a lot of that paperwork appears to be to do with that. The rest looks doable. But gaining permission to enter when my job skills are nothing special -- now that might be an obstacle.

Sad, isn't it, that I feel I could leave my native country with few qualms if a good opportunity arose? :(

Anyway, best of luck. :)

22. The s.o. is a descendant of Martha Washington, so
leaving is a huge bummer. Things have sucked for us so damned much the past few years, leaving is all we have left. We're terrified, but staying is not an option, for a dozen reasons. At least my family's up there. :)

14. since I would have about 100 boxes of books...
do you have to list every title, or just generic shitload of books?

Cause I've thought if I were really desperate, I could open a bookstore... cross your fingers that I can land a job up north too. not a lot in my area, and they say they give preference to Canadians.

17. I think "100 boxes of books" should do the trick
as long as they're clearly labeled. We have upwards of 50, so Customs is not getting an itemized list.

You might have to clear some of the snow off those roads yourself. :P

Good luck, and welcome back! :toast:

At this point, I'd much rather shovel snow than all the shite I've figuratively had to shovel the past few years. :P
