The vet just called to prepare me.
He thinks Gray may have something called Fibrosarcoma. That would be a type of cancer in the muscles of his back and leg. :(

If that is what this is, then there won't really be anything they can do.

1. I'm sorry, Thom.
Is this what the biopsy is telling them?

4. I think this is what the bloodwork is telling them.
They haven't done the biopsy yet, which is why the vet says he still needs to confirm it for sure.

19. I hope he's wrong.
We'll certainly know soon enough.

The vet went into some detail about it, and about how there isn't any treatment for it, and how it always recurrs. He definitely seems pretty certain.

I hope he's wrong. I'm not ready to lose any of my cats.

20. The ultrasound is next
It has been delayed but they're doing it within the next 2 hours. They have this AND that fatty/liquid mass in his abdomen to check out.

Then they'll be doing to biopsy.

The vet is going to call me after the ultrasound tonight.

24. I'll find out more tomorrow.
After the biopsy they'll know for sure.

The vet is making a housecall tomorrow. I can't get the cats to the vet by myself anymore. So he's going to give my other two babies checkups.

I hope I've stopped crying by them. I'm a 40 year old man crying like a kid.

26. As I remarked on the other thread
The vet bills must be murder. I had a false alarm on one of my fur children a few months ago, and it cost me several hundred just for an office visit and some blood tests. Is there any way we can help you out?

39. I'd give you a hug, man. Our Gypsy had that.
Beautiful German Shepherd. Great with kids and loved everyone who came through the front door. Not a terrific guard dog, but a great member of our family.

When our vet exhausted all the tests he could do, he suggested we take her to the vet school at Auburn University.
One of the top in the nation and about 5 hours away.
After a week of tests and examinations they did an exploratory surgery and that's what they found.

We drove back up to say goodbye and stroke her and hold her paw while the final shot was given.

I've been through this 4 times, and it never gets any easier.
I'm really sorry.

Nothing I can say to ease the pain of losing a friend like that. The last one I lost I was thankful to know she was going. I enjoyed three months with her until she told me it was time to go. If she had any doubts she was loved I made sure she had no doubt about it in those last days

I read some of the replies here about the cost.

Have you heard about Low Cost Pet Care?.?.?

They are located across the US. That's where I took my feral kitties I took in. The male kitty, I took to my local shelter and they traveled to it to do surgeries. But the two girls had to go to their new office they opened up. They were very good. The girls were spayed, rabies shot, and she even did a FeLV test for free, since I didn't have the money for it. It came back negative, which she said was a good indication the other two probably have it.

I also think she did it because I tamed the little furbabies, and let her know that they didn't have any human contact except me and hubby, and that they were feral kitties.

This link will take you to a long list of available locations.

62. A fibrosarcoma can usually be removed in surgery.
This may be an option to prolong the life of your kitty. When I just looked it up, it seemed like they are usually in the form of a tumor that can be removed. I will keep you and Gray in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry. I have three dogs and two cats that I love like children. Keep us posted if you can.
