Edited on Wed Apr-02-08 01:14 PM by fujiyama
Hell Yeah. I got a project out there for at least a month.

Never been there before. I'm pretty excited to go on a business trip and get a change of scenery! Some may have seen my previous lounge posts bitching about wanting to leave where I am.

Anyone recommend stuff to do/see in the city? I've heard it's a nice city.

1. My dear fujiyama!
How great!

You will love Portland, I think...

The town is very pretty after the rain stops!

Have a ball!

2. How SLOW is the plane going to go?
it takes a month to fly out there?

You might want to wait until the wind is behind you

5. Bring some hiking boots and go hiking in the Columbia Gorge
So many fantastic trails out there.

Hit the Oregon Coast.

Drink microbrews, Oregon Pinot Noirs, Stumptown Coffee.

Come up to NE Alberta Street for the last Thursday craziness.

Come out to see the Rose City Rollers roller derby bouts.

What are your interests?

16. I'll be out at least until May 7th
I can't believe I'm here. It's so wild. I got laid off my other project on Friday. I'm sitting at my parent company's main office and then one guy comes by and asks me if I'd like to head to the west coast and before he could say anything else I asked when he'd like me out there.

A few hours later I was on a plane! Life's craziest opportunities come when you least expect it. I'll be working wild hours but the first day's work was much more interesting than my last job...But I'll have time on weekends, etc to explore and have fun. The one guy I work with seems pretty like a liberal (he has liberal talk radio on in the car) and he came out here to escape the midwest as well (not that the midwest is bad but...)

All I can say is it's beautiful out here from the little I've seen. I hope I can get this contract extended longer. I'll have to bust my ass at work for that but I'm willing to if the work is interesting...and well, I've been trying to leave for a while now!

8. Portland is a great city.
If you like books, Powell’s is a bonanza. If you like baseball, go see the Beavers at PGE Park, they have a live organ player there and the food is good and cheap.

10. Sadly, the coin-operated Church of Elvis is no more.
But there's always Powells - one of the most impressive bookstores in the country. Multnomah Falls are an accessible and easy hike with some spectacular scenery. Portland's a nice city.

12. Check out
the Rose Garden and the Japanese Gardens. Both in the same area.
The Dancing Bear is nice-forget that one!
There's only one place like Powell's.
Hawthorne District is interesting.
I thought the art museum is just so-so, but YMMV.
Good Dog, Bad Dog for lunch.
