4. The big mander smile is irresistable

:D

Herps sounds good to me!

Edit to add -- i think you could have taken the mander smile and raised it a baby tortoise:

6. Only pet I ever owned that wasn't a reptile or an amphibian
was the crawfish I rescued from certain death and nursed back to health. Then once it was healthy, I set it free.

13. Hey Dark! (And Sally)
Last week, we were visiting our property in Arizona on which we will build one day and we saw our first diamondback rattlesnake (little guy about 18"). Made me happy and sad all at once!

15. Aww, that's neat!

I've seen massasaugas here in Ohio -- they're really beautiful, and endangered, but not a very good poster child for conservation efforts. ;)

:hi:

16. I like herps just fine, but I'd take a few steps back from that one.
:)

I've run into a few poisonous snakes when I was living in Florida (a coral snake once, and a couple of water moccasins), but most of what I saw there were the harmless Black Racers. Every year we'd end up with one living in a little area behind our house that was a bit overgrown. There was only about a foot of space between our porch and the fence, so it was impossible to trim that area. Great for small animals to hide in. We don't know if it was the same one coming back every year, or if that was just such a convenient nesting place that it got taken every time. :P

17. Yup. Here are a couple of pics. Actually, now that I see him, he could have been 3 feet long

My son and I usually catch a black racer when we visit Sanibel Island. He used to catch lizards as a little kid! Hilarious to watch an 8 year old at work.

Florida is reptile heaven! :D

21. Lovely.
Yes, that's the one thing I miss about Florida... the reptiles and amphibians.

Well, not the gators so much.

But the snakes and turtles and lizards and geckos and frogs. :) First pets I ever owned were a pair of cuban tree frogs that literally hopped right into my life. Came through the back door at work and I had to catch 'em before they got near the food or scared the customers. :)

...shame on you.

Anyway, everyone knows cats are better... :P

12. This kind of divisiveness is why you should vote for a third party.
Vote Reptile/Amphibian 2008!

11. As long as ''dogs" is defined as "Labrador Retriever", dogs all the way...
though we have cats, cats and more cats around the farm. Mama is ready to burst with first kittens of the year. Any day now. I'm still a Lab guy through and through.

18. Better at what?

In our family, our dogs are better at dog-things, and the cat is, well... the cat.

19. Dogs are better than anything...
...but I'm a sucker, and love cats just as much.

Cats, of course, will tell you otherwise.

22. I wish there were an "other"
I have both, and it's like apples and oranges. I have bonded more with my dog over the years, but I love my kitties too. Just depends on what the situation is.

24. Cats seem to love me and I was bitten by a dog when I was 3.
So I'm naturally biased towards cats, although I've come around to dogs more recently.
