My Sister Seems To Think That Text Messages Are All You Need...
About six months ago she pretty much quit answering my calls, but she will answer my text messages :wtf: I asked her about it and she's like "I talked to you" (last month) She's my only sister and to be honest it isn't the same to text her.

Today is our mother's birthday and she would have been 74 years old today. I really thought she might answer the phone.

So far she hasn't. I won't try anymore either. I'm not going to text her about that either.

Sorry for this, I'm really frustrated about this. I have talked to her a few times in the last 6 months, (maybe 4) and she isn't mad at me. I think she has just decided that text messages are all that is necessary. I'm old fashioned. I miss my sister's voice.

21. Self-pity is what the Lounge is for
Among other things, of course. Vent!

Texting is bad, period. Feel no remorse, no shame becuase you refuse to comply with your sister's rule. She might eventually get the message. :)

7. I'm sorry...I didn't see this.
My sister only corresponds with me via email since her husband got pissed at me in my own home a few years ago and almost took a swing at me.

There is no explaining family dynamics.

9. spk, i post stuff from time to time and at least half of the threads get no response at all.
none, nada, zippo. So i figure either people don't like, my stuff is really boring or they have nothing to add. Did i say half, i should have said 75% of my op's get no response, at 50 i was being a little to generous to myself.

10. You know how it goes in here sometimes....
I post a lot of threads like that.

They sink like a stone.

SPK...I know how you feel about the communication with your sister.

I wish I had some answers for you here, but if i did, I would not be having the exact same problem.

I miss my sister too.

I might try being direct with her....tell her you miss talking....

Edited on Thu May-29-08 10:47 PM by madinmaryland
she obviously has caller id on her phone.

:wtf: is right.

She can't even reply to a freaking voice mail. :grr:

13. My nephew is like that
would rather text than talk. Says it's more efficient. Which makes sense I suppose because he needs his spare time to watch sports and play video games.

29. I agree but you can't tell him that
On Christmas I watched him text 'Merry Christmas' to all his friends and then get annoyed when they started calling him. "I texted them so I wouldn't have to talk!" he told me.

15. Sounds exactly like my SIL
She does not answer the phone when I call, she will not return a voice mail, but she will return a text message.

I have been with her when her phone rings and she does answer it then.

:banghead:

One time we called her, and she did not return our call, but she called my MIL and apparently my MIL was supposed to deliver the message that she had gotten our message.

18. I text with my kiddos and 1 sister
if I just need a simple yes or no answer or if I am at work to let them know I will call later. You are right tho..it is not the same as talking on the phone and hearing their voices.

31. At least she's bright enough to know how to send a text message.
The same cannot be said for me. I never use my cell phone, but I take it with me (in lieu of wearing a watch) when I travel for business. Yesterday, I noticed that I had an text message from a colleague waiting for me, but when I tried to reply, I screwed something up. A few hours later, when I saw my colleague at a meeting, he goes, "Hey, did you send me an SMS this morning saying nothing but 0-5?"

32. I'm sorry about that
I don't care much for text messaging myself, but have a couple of friends who send me them quite a bit. I don't even respond half the time, and am often likely to just call them if I see they've sent me a text message. Honestly, I find text messaging to be a bigger hassle than just calling someone. Oddly, the only person I text with some regularity is my sister; we like to send dumb inside jokes back and forth to each other, but I call her if I actually have something important to say. I do have a cousin who seems to substitute text messaging for calling in the way that your sister does. I had thought maybe it was an age thing because my cousin is only 20 (I'm 24 myself), and it seems like a number of younger people have grown up in the age of text messaging and go a little overboard with it. It's interesting your sister is that way even though she is in her forties.

Anyway, sorry about all of my rambling... that is unfortunate about your sister. Maybe you should bring up to her how you feel about it. I totally understand where you are coming from in terms of preferring to hear the voice of someone that matters to you rather than getting text messages, but some people don't even think about that kind of stuff. She may have not even considered that the way she is doing things could be bothering you.
