How do you get a Daring Jumping Spider out of the house (warning: pic)
Edited on Fri May-30-08 12:38 PM by Taverner

Not a big spider, but the name fits - she can jump.

This makes putting her into a cup a little hard. Especially when she frequents corners and stuff.

Did I mention that I hate spiders almost as much as I do wasps?

1. Please LMK if you find out.
For some reason they're freakin' everywhere this year. My mother's house has a ton of them, probably because her yard backs up to an undeveloped area with a creek.

3. So THAT's what they are.
I've seen a few of those lately. Are they about the size of a dime (including the fuzzy legs)?

24. Sorry, spiders are a minor considertion here
Have squirrels or something tearing the living shit out of my attic. Spiders are like a minor concern where I am. Used to have a tarantula as a pet, nicest pet ever, really.

6. They're non poisonous
They will bite if threatened - #1 spider bite in the US

But their bites just get sore and then go away. They would much rather dissolve the insides of some hapless insect.

I still don't like them though...

9. Darn, I was hoping you would say that they don't bite.
:(

I just smashed one on the ceiling about an hour ago. I just don't have it in me to chase the little fuckers around when they are inside the house. And I live with an arachnophobe so I don't have much choice but to get it while I can.

12. spider rules in our house
1. if you are in my bathroom, you are automatically terminated.
2. if you don't catch any bugs in 1 24 hour period, you are terminated.

no if ands or buts about it. I explain the rules to the spiders, and if they don't cooperate, then hubbie goes and gets rid of them for me.

I hate spiders about as much as Indiana Jones hates snakes.

40. I've tried that!
it really is the good thing to do, most spiders are very good animals. I discovered that after a few years of not killing them they were EVERYWHERE, so now I still let most of them go but every few months I have a little Spider Massacre and clean out the dusty places. I feel awful killing them, I always say I'm sorry :(

Earlier today my mom found a black widow on her porch, she's sent everyone the scary pictures just now. She thinks she also found a pack of black widow babies afterward but I hope those were just some garden spiders :scared:

13. This an easy one
Get a glass and something to cover it with and sneak up on her. Or just grab her and put her outside - most spider venom is not toxic to humans, just a little red spot that itches for a couple days. Done it a thousand times. I only draw the line at scorpions and brown recluses. But if she seems to be doing well, leave her alone and think of her as a pet.

Khash.

The scorpion actually glowed in the dark - all it's insides lit up in amazing colours. Really cool on film or in a zoo. I made her get rid of it. I hate scorpions. They scare the hell outa me.

you know how they give all of those drug interaction warnings on the tv for everything from aspirin to zyrtec? we are all snowflakes. your interaction will not be mine.

yes, many can get bit by this cute little jumping buddy and scratch for a few days. and some will get bit and die.

which one are you?

some will eat peanuts and enjoy, some will eat peanuts and their throats will close up...

i say, whack that little fucker, before he gets a chance to jump, with a fly swatter.

better safe than sorry...

Where in California do you live? I saw loads of spiders, including a tarantula once, when I lived around LA, but I don't think I ever saw a spider like that one. I don't really like spiders a lot myself, though they seem to like my apartment.

and a GIANT house centipede dropped on the desk in front of me.

Scared the crap out of me... I didn't know what it was, all I knew is it had a brazilian legs and could run like hell. At first I even thought it had wings and had FLOWN onto the desk.

I needed another beer just to chill out. :P

Now THAT'S a frightening prospect! Yep, they're fast and have entirely too many legs, especially those long-legged slinky ones. The only arthropods that semi-creep me out.

But the fat, juicy, crunchy ones... gross out.

Them and maggots. :puke:

And on edit: sez the girl who just reached into the maceration bucket, pulled out a loon skull, rinsed it off, and put in on the shelf to dry. :D
