My cat nearly gave me a heart attack tonight.
I had some people over, and my living room was hot as hell. I don't normally open the window cause there's no screen, but I couldn't take it anymore.

We propped it open. Kitty was very interested, poking his head out. I'm like "Oh, he'll be fine, he's not so stupid as to jump down three stories".

But, eventually I shooed him away cause he nearly knocked over a plant.

Five minutes later, he jumps up, and before I can say boo, he's halfway out the window. Then... he DROPS. I get to the window as fast as I can, thinking his a little kitty pancake, and he's sitting in the eves trough. Which is below the window. Which I didn't know. But I can't reach out and get him. He climbs along the trough and gets to the roof of the sunroom. I'm trying to coax him back in, and he's just staring at me, wide eyed, like "You expect me to get in that window all by myself?! Puh-LEASE"

I had to go in my room mates room, jimmy open her screen, and nearly fall out snagging the stupid creature.

That's all of my story. It's rather anti-climatic. But watching him drop from a third story window when I knew there was no roof below was just a little upsetting at the time.

1. My fluff jumped out of a second-story window once

At least, that's how we figured she got out. And there was no convenient gutter or flowerbox to stop her. Just a sheer drop. Had to be close to 20 feet, and there was a concrete walkway there as well to avoid.

She was fine, but I was surprised beyond belief when she was waiting at the front door for someone to let her in!

Glad you kitty is okay.

2. Yeah, my sister had a dog once
that threw itself through a closed 2nd story window to get out.

Crazy animals.

3. Get some screen windows!
When I had several windows replaced several years ago, they didn't replace the screens. I called then back and made them finish the job. Jebus! I didn't want bat's, birds, or other creatures coming into my open windows!

4. I had the same thing happen
only this was a 4-story window!

There was a TINY little ledge about 2 feet below the window that we didn't know was there. :o

She did NOT get the chance to try that again.

7. Mine once tore out the screen in order to fling herself out a second story window.
There were birds involved, of course, I imagine they were taunting her .... ha. It was horribly frightening, I look over and there the cat is flinging herself through the window, screen and all.

She landed in some bushes and was fine!

I'm glad you got her back in the house okay.

I think it's time to get some screens. :)
