Denied ATV shop permit, businessman takes new tack
Announces a porn shop named after one of his biggest opponents
by Ernie Bjorkman, News2

June 19, 2008

ALLENSPARK (KWGN) — People in the small mountain town of Allenspark are drawing up the battle lines.

The controversy began when Jeff Mead wanted to open an ATV rental store there.

But nearby neighbors complained about the noise and enviromental impact.

Margie Patterson says Mead's clients have damaged pristine private land, a claim Mead dismisses.

The Boulder County Planning Commission recently denied the businessman a special-use permit to open his business.

So Mead put out a banner on his building which reads,"Patterson's XXX Porn Gallery".

Mead said he's serious about opening the adult store to make money since he was denied a permit to open his rental shop.

Patterson and other residents claim the move is childish and in poor taste.

Mead says he hopes to open the porn gallery by August.

4. As much as I sympathize with the residents unhappy over ATVs...
...the man needs to do something to pay his property taxes (or earn his rent). Is it actually revenge? A quiet little pr0n business with a smaller environmental footprint should satisfy the critics.

5. Good Lord. I live in Boulder County.
We have some weird, weird, childish, immature, poopy-headed people here.

6. So...
how disruptive to the environment would ATV rental be? I know they're loud and somewhat disruptive because my town is filled with them...but I'm not sure that a rental shop here would have a negative impact since virtually everybody owns one here except me and the bed and breakfast patrons.

I could definitely see this being disruptive and having a negative impact if there is no or low current ATV traffic though.

7. It's Allenspark, CO
...Hard to shake a stick without hitting something motorized and fun. :D

We've been laughing at this one all day at my office. Much as I hate to say such things, Boulder's lost its mind. Again.

8. Again? You imply we found it in the first place!
I assure you, no such thing has EVER happened in my 20-some-odd years living in Boulder!

9. I agree with the townspeople - and porn is quieter!
Call me a crusty old grouch, but I'd object to an ATV rental place opening in my neighborhood too. We have been subjected to years of teenagers bombing up and down on our street on the fucking things, heedless of peace and quiet, helmet safety or other vehicles. They've always managed to make a racket during the summer months when one of my kids was trying to nap, and even just sitting in my backyard enjoying a little sunshine and quiet is a challenge, because there's usually a kid on a four-wheeler (or dirtbike) roaring by. I don't see why we have to suffer when warm weather comes because these assholes have nothing more meaningful to do with their lives than go up the street. And down the street. And up the street. And down the street. And up the street. And down the street. And up the street. And down the street. And up the street. And down the street. And up the street. And down the street. And up the street. And down the street. You get the picture. I'd hoped higher gas prices would put these piece of shit ATVs out of commission but no such luck yet.

So I think Mead's idea to open an adult store is a good one - porn is cleaner, quieter and more neighborly than the fucking noise machines, and it doesn't burn gas!

10. LOL! Something like that happened where my parents live.
This dude was running a junk yard, town didn't like it, gave him a big hassle. Soooo, he opened a strip joint. It didn't last long, but I thought it was a great F U to the town.
