How do I tell if a component video cable is on the fritz?

How do I tell if a component video cable is on the fritz?
I've got a wonky picture when I use a component video cable, and I'm trying to figure out if the problem is the cable itself, or Verizon (or Verizon's box). I've tried unplugging the individual components from both the cable box and the TV. The picture reacts as it should (different color elements dropping out), but the colors and sharpness when all three are plugged in is not correct. The picture is fine using an HDMI connection.

Thoughts?

use HDMI...

:P

Other than that, try a different cable and see if it looks better.

2. One problem with HDMI...
Currently, there is a green line running down the right edge of the screen. Rumor has it Verizon will fix this in the next update sometime this month or next month. That's why I was using the component cables.

3. The only way I can think of
Is to get another cable and swap them. Could it be some DRM (Digital Rights Management) crap when using the component cables.?
