The BlueIris Semi-Nightly Poetry Break, 7/25/08
"Washing Before Sex"

To complete what we begin
Without interruption is a common desire,
But this cannot always be the case.
Even when listening to the purest
Aria, we understand the dog must be let out.

Smaller things do matter,
Hygeine among them, a courtesy
To our partners. A century ago,
Once a week was considered sufficient,
But even this basic act must be made more
Difficult, like so many others, like romance
Itself, how many promises and minor luxur items
Has it taken to get to get here, to this one moment

When a quick shower is required?
Washing before sex is a duty,
Like moaning, call it homage to vanity,
If nothing else, or for other reasons
That can be imagined. The Romans knew
This, the cult of tubs, the Baths of Caracalla
For example, full of sex and steamy politics,

Or the adolescents eager for those summer trips
To the lake, cavorting for hours in the shallows
Where the water bears weight and moving
The essentials is so much easier,
Affection for prolonged bathing has been reported
By partners attempting a sustained amniotic orgasm,
Or fetal sex. The bodies of the dead are washed
For proper burial, and hands are scrubbed
After dove-gutting.

Washing afterward is a given,
Like the Clean Plate Club, or coming in
From gardening, at the end
Of the late night shift, a standard practice,
And once the afterglow cools,
What is wet, chills, until all that is left
Is damp, a reminder of the necessity
Of obligation, remorse, the aquatic life.

1. My dear BlueIris!
Now, this is my kind of poem!

I love erotic poems, and this is very fine indeed...

Yummy!

Thank you...

2. I knew someone would like it.
Just...didn't expect it would be Ms. C-Peg. I will keep this in mind for future poetry breaks.

3. Don't you know I LOVE erotica?
Hell, that's most of what I write!

You could post erotic poems every day, and I'd never be tired of them...

4. Every day?
I'll see what I can do. I had some distincly non-erotic poems lined up for the rest of the Sun's trek through Leo, but maybe they can wait.

6. Nah, don't postpone what you want to post...
Just sprinkle the erotic stuff around as you see fit!

That would be nice too...

8. Now, now...this is a *poem* about sex, and clearly falls within the "as long as it's mature" clause
of the "no sex threads" statute.

Still, nice to have an OhioBlues sighting in here.

7. Not sure what poem other's read
But this is not really erotic, unless clinical stuff turns you on.

And once the afterglow cools,
What is wet, chills, until all that is left
Is damp, a reminder of the necessity
Of obligation, remorse, the aquatic life.

What's erotic about obligation & remorse?

9. There's a weird, paradoxical quality to the eroticism in this one, I think.
It's sensual, even though it's about one of the least sensual parts of the lovemaking process.
