Another shooting in a church today--UUs this time.
So sad. There was a children's play going on when the guy came in and started shooting. Never thought of my job as risky, but I'm beginning to wonder. Prayers for the people of Tennessee Valley UU Church.

1. My late uncle had been a member of this church
He died two years ago.

This is indeed a bizarre tragedy. I am wondering the motivation.

2. I heard on the news that they think it is a hate crime.
I guess the church recently put up a sign welcoming gays into their church.

3. I wouldn't be surprised. I'm amazed at the hatred that issue engenders in evangelicals.
I serve the only Open and Affirming church in this area, and I sometimes wonder if we're at risk from crazies. But, to paraphrase Ava, "justice takes courage".

So sad.

4. I think all of us (gay or straight) progressives can be at risk.
Some fringe groups, and not so fringe evangelicals seem to have the "by any means necessary" attitude regarding religion.

7. Reminds me of a shirt I've seen: "Every Religion Has It's Taliban"
If this turns out to be a hate crime, the blood is on the hands of the radical religious right.

8. OMG
I'm a UU (Buddhist flavor). A few years ago a seriously deranged woman threatened us, along with the local UCC and Unity churches. She must have had something against houses of worship that began with "U" - accused us all of belly dancing while worshiping Satan. She also showed up at my place of work and accused me practicing witch craft. That happened to be true at the time, though her definition and mine of "witch craft" weren't even close*. That was before she tried to run over the customers from the new age gift shop, or I would have called the police even sooner.

There's some really crazy people out there.

*Mine involved lots of candles, Goddess statues and meditation. Hers were of human sacrifice.
