1. Believe it or not, that's good news.
My mother had Crohn's disease from her mid 30s, and she died at the ripe old age of 85 (from causes completely unrelated to Crohn's). It's very treatable by diet and medication and, while a bit of a pain in the ass (no pun intended), it's a hell of a lot better than the alternatives.

I'm glad your results weren't more serious.

6. In my mother's case, the diet part...

...meant staying away from any foods that had a tendency to inflame the digestive tract. That included a lot of the spicier dishes (which wasn't a big deal for her since, being Irish, she considered boiled potatoes muy picante), as well as those that have some inflammatory chemical in their composition (I can't remember offhand what these were, but your doctor should be able to advise you).

She also started out on a cocktail of different medications, which were gradually reduced as her condition stabilized, until she only had to take Sulfanimide (which I understand has now been superseded by some other sulfate drug.)

The trick seems to be to use the drugs to reduce existing inflammation, and diet to reduce the factors that cause additional inflammation. In the end, it's a bit of a bore sitting there eating plain chicken while everyone around you tucks into Tacos el Diablo and Lamb Vindaloo, but it's no doubt worth it to be free of the pain and worry.

You'll also have something to talk to the singer Anastasia about if you ever meet her. She's had Crohn's since childhood. ;)
