the other week, I brought home some campaign materials to use with door to door stuff for our Legislative Rep ...they were in a black bag, one of those 'green bags' that are not quite paper and not quite cloth. Just plain black, tote bag style.

I parked it on my kitchen stool which has a seat on it, and it was in my dining area.

Well, I kept reaching out to pet it when I walked by because if it is big and black and sitting on the stool, it is normally my cat, Clark. I finally moved the damn thing to a place that wouldn't trigger the auto reflex.

That kind of stuff

Man does that cat have me trained.

I laugh at myself a LOT because of the ditzy, dufusy things I do. Like leaving my cell phone on top of my car, not packing my cell phone charger on a trip, opening the same kind of cat food twice in a row--you get the idea.

Oh and let's not forget driving into the parking lot of some employer I worked for 10 years ago--then realizing, oh duh, I don't work here anymore.

I had one recent experience, trying to go to sleep at 3 A.M. while still under the influence (of what, I won't say :P), when I kept hearing Tim Meadows's Leon Phelps character in my head, telling me I didn't just need a job "for your mind and your skills," but one "for your friends downstairs, too."

What's really funny is that I could swear he used the exact phrase "your friends downstairs," to refer to genitalia in one of his sketches.

40. Daily...but one incident sticks out in my head as my ultimate doofusy

I was using the pop machine at work and putting in my collection of change - some dimes, quarters. Well one of my dimes kept coming right back out in the change slot.. so I tried it again a couple of times.. same thing. So I look at the dime to see if it was Canadian (up here in MN we have lots of Canadian change.. some machines take em others won't). Nope... regular American dime, perfect condition. So I tried it again (it was all the change I had so I needed it to work)..and it spit right back out.

The next thought in my head (swear to god) was "maybe its a counterfeit dime"

The next thought was "ya Nadine, that's the market now... counterfeit dimes... no one suspects dimes. Forget $20 bills, the real theives counterfeit dimes and make tens of dollars"


Then I started laughing hysterically ... at myself - first the dumb thought, then the sarcastic response.

Oh and what was "wrong" with the dime... cuz I know some of you won't sleep at night? I remembered it had a distinctive noise when it hit the change slot (my first tip it was fake you know)... because it was an old dime... so it was pure silver.


Whenever I take myself too seriously I remind myself of the great counterfeit dime conspiracy.
