5. *** spoilers! ***
So May-Treanor and Walsh repeated as gold medalists in beach volleyball. I was hopping up and down after they won.

However, my joy turned to stomach-churning angst when Walsh turned to the camera yelling, "Mr. President, thank you for the inspiration!"

Mr. Writer and I are still crying.

6. aw, come on now
if you're an olympian and the president personally cheered you on during your game you just about have to be nice.

also, even if she is a republican, that doesn't make a difference when it comes to her sports career.

 she was probably just saying what she had to say, don't cry

personally, i'm not a big volleyball fan, so i didn't see it.

13. well it certainly teaches you diplomacy, that much i'll say
i'm much more calm and collected around conservatives and republicans as a result, and i think that's a great thing. i'm able to get a point across to them without threatening them, and they're more likely to listen that way.

plus i have the smooooth southern accident to slide by on

14. Man, I need to get me some of what you have.
The last towns I've lived in were Berkeley, San Francisco, Wash. DC (Clinton years), and Portland. As a consequence, I have ZERO conservative tolerance. I mean none. I break out in a sweat if I even sense one in my vicinity. I have no Republican "friends." None. (Well, maybe one sort-of friend left over from what we used to call junior high school, but we're not close at all and don't live in the same state.)

22. I have lived in NYC for virtually all of my life, and so I too have zero conservative tolerance
I cannot even get into a conversation with one without getting red in the face.

I wasn't like that pre-stolen election, but the last seven years have just about killed me.

15. Remember the beef scandal four years ago?
Too lazy to look it up, but from memory, Bush did some ceremonial thing, then went and sat in the bleachers with some young gymnasts, I think they were. Suddenly one of the gymnasts got all excited and called her mom on a cell phone, and she got Bush to talk to her mom, and all the cameras caught it and thought it was just adorable...

Turned out it was all staged. She had signed some endorsement contract with the beef industry, who had been a huge donor to the Bush campaign, and it was Bush's way of making her more popular to reward the beef industry.

I wonder what the volleyballers will endorse?

and made him watch me clean up the mess, flashing him an angry mug once in a while. I then sent him to his kennel.
