Don't do it! I'm begging you! I know how tough life must be under Angelos' totalitarian regime -- but although he is a sexy, sexy man  , he's no spring chicken. New, hopefully non-sucking ownership will emerge eventually.

So there's no reason to get all moon-eyed over an expansion team that consistently drew 12,000* fans in the middle of a pennant race.

On the other hand, it is kind of cool that Eva Longoria made the transition from Desperate Housewives to the bigs so smoothly. :P

edit: *-unless the Yankees were in town. Then the figures doubled. :eyes:

12. I hedge my bets to avoid total despair.
There are three teams I root for on a regular basis. In order of priority, they are:

1. Orioles--ha, ha. Good luck there.
2. Marlins--my adoptive hometown team.
3. Rays--Florida's AL representative.

The thinking is, any given year, at least one of these teams has to be good. I hope. I beg. I pray.

While Number 1 did its typical crash and burn which is typical of the past decade, and Number 2 showed some promise but faded in the end, Number 3 hit the jackpot. And since neither Number 1 or Number 2 are in the equation, I default to Number 3 and will root for them to take home the big prize. The funny thing is, I can objectively say they have the talent to do so.

And you may laugh about calling the Rays a (10 year old) expansion team (although there was nothing to laugh at the 1997 Marlins or the 2001 Diamondbacks, mind you) or ridicule their attendance (despite the fact the team was getting 30,000 plus crowds on a regular basis by the second half of the season), they are definetly the feel good team of the year and worthy of support.

As for Longoria, yeah, she does great at the hot corner, don't you think? Especially given her get-up:

6. Although the Rays are a nice story...
I'm picking the Phillies...Tampa Bay won a SB a few years back..I would like to see the long suffering Philly people FINALLY win something.

7. Okay, seriously, only 2 votes for the Rays?
That team is camradarie. Not to mention they have the most wins of any of the teams left standing, they had one of the best home records and will have home field advantage in both the ALCS and the World Series (should they advance), and they had a better record against the Red Sox this year (especially at home). Not to mention the Red Sox have Lowell out and Beckett isn't 100%.

8. It;'s the same ol "they're just the Rays" mentality
The Rays are the true definition of team. Plus, I think they have the best pitching going into the league championships.

14. Fightin'Phils. They even have pitchers now!
They have had bad pitchers since the first day they ever played.
Now they have good pitching and they are in the playoffs 2 years in a row.
