I'm listening to "Born In The USA" , one of my favorite songs ever.
It always gets me in the gut a little.

I'd laugh at the people who believe it's a "Rah, Rah, Go America!" patriotic song, if it weren't so sad and pathetic that they just don't get it.

1. Yeah, seems like a lot of his songs sound all happy and perky until
you really listen to the words.

I still think "My Hometown" should be the national anthem.

2. Springsteen is deeply patriotic
but not in a grumpy old mans way.

4. Isn't it a Vietnam Coming home song?
Springsteen is not one to mumble his lyrics - so it was always pretty clear to me...

5. The difficulty of Vietnam and its aftermath for the homecomer, yes.
Some people only listen to the "I was born in the USA" part.

6. I can't believe our 40th President had the gall to use it as a campaign theme
Of course, he was half-senile at that point, so I'm not that surprised.
