LeftyKid is mad at me because he can't vote.
Today we went out to the southeast part of the county to get a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch, and on the way back we drove past Dem campaign HQ. LK saw all the signs out front and demanded we go in and buy one. Next thing I know, we're the proud owners of two signs (No on 8 and Obama '08) one Obama bumpersticker (which had to go front and center on the back of my car before we left the parking lot,) and one of those Obama buttons that looks like the AC/DC logo, which went on his shirt straight away. We'd have had a shirt too, but they don't have any to fit seven year old boys, even if they're really big for their age.

Anyhow, LK's mad at me because he can't vote. But he's pretty happy about his Obama sign.

1. Child abuse!!
Next, you'll send him to public school where socialist heathens will force-teach him it's okay to be gay.

You're gonna burn in hell.

But you knew that.

2. The Adventures of Lefty Kid - I love these stories!
Do they have Kids Voting where you are? We have it in my county where kids in grades K-12 vote in a "special" election. We had to do it for homework or else - we had to bring in proof signed by a poll worker. It was to teach us the importance of voting and it worked.

3. That is too cute.
My co-worker's daughter is 15 and has already informed me that she can't wait to vote Obama into a second term.

These kids and their liberal dreams for the future of this country.

4. Oh but he can.
My 9 yr old granddaughter showed me a webpage last night for kids. She was so excited last night when she voted for Obama/Biden. Check your PM. I'll send you the link. I don't want freep idiots ruining something for the kids.

7. have him vote at Nickelodeon website!

http://www.nick.com/kpp/ - they're revealing the results tomorrow some time.

My 8 year old was very excited - they have a section where the kids can read about several issues, to help make up their minds (Meet the Candidates, I think).

We read each issue in turn for both candidates, for comparison (rather than all issues at once for each). I just read the issues along with him (no prompting, I swear!) :)

When cyberswede jr. read McCain's stance on the Iraq war, he said, "He's a dork," or something like that LOL! He didn't like that McCain opposes universal health care, either (once I explained what it is).

This morning, he couldn't wait to show the site to his 6 year old sister: "Sissy, you can vote at nickjunior.com!" he said. It makes me happy to see them excited about this stuff.

on edit: posted by cyberswede (not Rambis) oops!

11. Get him that old movie, "Wild in the Streets" about the kids that lower the voting age
with violent revolution and take over the whole country. You know, just see what happens...

12. He can go in the booth with you, can't he? Kids do here.
Let him be as involved as possible. Show him the ballot, let him hand it to the election judge if that's allowed. He will have done everything but making the actual mark or pushing the actual button. That should help him feel a part of the process.

I remember being at campaign HQ when my mom was volunteering, when I was a kid. That experience no doubt helped make me who I am! Let LK see how democracy works. He'll be grateful and you'll be proud! :)

13. I vote absentee since I'm normally a poll worker.
He goes with me to turn it in at the elections office, since I don't want to trust my vote to the tender mercies of the postal service.

He just wanted to have his own say. He knows how voting works, I've been taking him with me since he before he could walk, and he's come in and visited with me on elections I was working. He just wants a more active role, and I think he's feeling frustrated since he's young and there's not much he can do.

I think maybe I'll take him to school and let him work the voter registration table, so he can feel more involved.

15. I was going to be a poll worker once
But the woman in charge of the orientation and I guess the training and dispatching was a mean and racist b**tch. No way to sugar coat it either. If you were a minority and you asked a question you got a heavy sigh and a rude, "weren't you listening to what I said?". I called her office with a question (OMG) about the class schedules and her voice mail greeting was equally as rude which just killed all the enthusiasm I had.
