1. Dammit! On opposite "Whale Wars"
I'll have to DVR it. It looked like a good episode from the ad I saw last night.

8. That can't be good no matter how hungry one might be
Reasonably safe as they are unlikely to be carrying any mammalian parasites.

Just looked it up in the Army survival manual (FM 21-76):

Worms (Annelidea) are an excellent protein source. Dig for them in damp humus soil or watch for them on the ground after a rain. After capturing them, drop them into clean, potable water for a few minutes. The worms will naturally purge or wash themselves out, after which you can eat them raw.

Bon Appétit!

5. I love Survivorman
He's truly on his own, so there's always the chance that the producer finds only bleached bones and a camcorder to document what went wrong. Not like that other whatsisname, who takes along a frigging film crew.

7. Les has a radio for emergencies
He's not an idiot. He does have a wife and kids after all. He shoots all his own film and has a great eye with the camera.

Bear Grylls was the one who was caught staying in hotels and staging stunts. I wouldn't mind that so much if some (most?) of his advice was downright horrible.

The guy may be crazy, but he sure isn't stupid.

10. There was a mini controversy last year
He released some sled dogs on one show and they were not seen again. Some people posted on the show website questioning what happened to them.

11. He covered that on his blog
The dogs' owner/trainer was down the trail. The dogs ran straight to him.

I’ve traveled through some beautiful landscapes. Tree studded, rocky hills and frozen lakes. The dogs pulled me fantastically…. until the moment I stepped off the sled and they kept going!

Ok – truth be told – I knew it was coming. I cut them loose along the trail and they will keep going until they meet up with their owner somewhere. This was a planned happening to illustrate what pretty much every musher that ever lived has had happen to them at least once. You make one small mistake and the dogs take off and you are left stranded in the middle of nowhere. There are stories of dogs traveling a hundred miles into town from where they got away from their master.
