What are your favorite holiday movies?
I have a favorite Thanksgiving movie: Avalon. I hope it comes on this year. If it did last year I missed it.

My favorite Christmas movies are Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story. There are lots more that I enjoy but those are my two favorites I think.

1. I like "Love, Actually" - Bravo ran it last weekend, and it
really is a fun movie, even if it is sappy and drags on and on and on in places...

14. I watch that blasted film probably once a month, and more at Christmas.
Cry every damn time, at different story lines. The one with Liam Neeson and the kid gets me every time, though.

Hmm. About time I watched it again, come to think of it.

23. I've been sitting here trying to figure out
how that's a holiday movie... but I think I've just realized that that it might be due to the family strife, yes? Not quite sarcasm, but... something.

Anyway, I think I figured it out! :woohoo:

32. Henry lets Kathryn out of prison for Christmas with their sons and his girlfriend...
She gets busy trying to get one of her three sons to kill Henry. At the end, it's back to prison for her. Two of their sons did end up becoming king at different times. Richard became Richard the Lionhearted and John is the Prince John in the Robin Hood legend.

16. "Prancer," and "The Ice Harvest."
"Prancer" is like slicing onions to me. Cry from front to back.

"The Ice Harvest" really just sucks, but no one had mentioned it yet. And it's funny, despite its suckiesque qualities.

27. I don't remember a big speech around a table
It's a dark mystery with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton about a selfish petty lawyer who neglects his children and tries to con his friends--and he's the good guy. It's one of those post-modern pseudo-noir Cohen-wannabee films. It's a clever script, and not really that bad. Just not very Christmas-y.

18. For Thanksgiving, "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles".
For Christmas, "A Mr. Magoo Christmas Carol" (I usually cry at the part where he's singing about being lonely), and "White Christmas".

24. "Alice's Restaurant"
and "The Last Waltz" for Thanksgiving.

The former directed by Arthur Penn, and starring Arlo Guthrie as himself (and incidentally, Officer Obie as himself), fleshing out Arlo's 18 minute classic talking blues about how a Thanksgiving sojourn to the City Dump got him out of the draft.

The latter, filmed by Martin Scorsese on Thanksgiving Day 1976, documenting The Band's farewell concert at the Winterland Palace in San Francisco. Plenty of legendary musical guests help them along.

For Christmas, "A Christmas Story", which strikes the perfect balance of salty and sweet, and "A Charlie Brown Christmas", which has the best music of any holiday special, and Charlie Brown gets sweet vindication, lol.

40. Almost forgot this one: Edward Scissorhands
Can't forget Edward

Officer Allen: Will he be OK, Doc?
Psychologist: The years spent in isolation have not equipped him with the tools necessary to judge right from wrong. He's had no context. He's been completely without guidance. Furthermore, his work - the garden sculptures, hairstyles and so forth - indicate that he's a highly imaginative... uh... character. It seems clear that his awareness of what we call reality is radically underdeveloped.
Officer Allen: But will he be all right out there?
Psychologist: Oh yeah, he'll be fine.
