Sheryl Crow's 'Soak up the Sun' is one of the worst songs in history
And the crazy thing is that she's actually quite a talented song-writer. But that piece of fluff is so awful that I now have to buy a new radio to replace the one I just sledgehammered.

51. Save a lil bit of the sledgehammer for your TV as Sheryl Crow
Tends to get her songs bought out for commericals - then you hear her songs all the time, if you don't grab the remote quick enough

3. It was on in the next room, if you must know
Reception isn't the greatest 'round these parts, so we only get about a dozen stations. Eight of them are Godmusic, three are country-pop, and the fourth is a smorgasbord.

Perhaps the dinkiest, most insipid lyrics he ever penned. Any other artist would have been ejected from the studio for trying to record that pap.

Which is more than what I can say for 'Silly Love Songs' or 'Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime'

34. memories
in high school I had a teacher who would lock the door once class started and if you were late to class, tough toenails, you were left outside. One day a very insistent classmate wouldn't stop knocking on the door yet the teacher wouldn't acknowledge it. Finally someone spoke up "Hey someone's knocking on the door!"....to which the class stoner, who usually slept through class, raises her head and sang "someone's ringing the bell" then promptly went back to sleep!

I am forever grateful to that song and the moment of hilarity it brought.

12. A dangerous but very good assessment!
The only song I've ever liked by Lenny Kravitz is Mr. Cab Driver, which I think was like 22 years ago.

And Steve Miller did a great job on that one song, over and over and over again for four decades.

Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 12:39 AM by primate1
Always baffled me. Sure, if it's good music to begin with, it's fun to find out they're like minded politically, but that really doesn't affect the quality of the music.

27. I have nothing against her, except
That the radio seems to love playing her worst stuff. Her raspy shriek in Strong Enough back in the 90s was enough to make me build a cryo-chamber and sleep through the rest of the decade. What did I miss?

On the other hand, her Leaving Las Vegas is a magnificent song. It's a crime that it almost never appears on commercial airwaves.

Even All I Wanna Do is nowhere near as bad as it seemed when it was in 24/7 rotation back in the day...

"Difficult Kind" was one that didn't get airtime, but really is a good song.

"Soak up the Sun" was one to appease the mainstream, I suppose.

33. Sheryl Crow is a worthless piece of human trash.
I don't care that she's a Dem. I don't care that she suffered from cancer. The way she treated people like Kevin Gilbert (who had more talent in one booger than she could ever hope to have in her entire life) is unforgivable.

RIP Kevin Gilbert.

I know Crow didn't use Gilbert on her second album, because they had split up as a couple.

Do you consider this unforgivable, or did she do something else like screw him out of royalties or credit?

Holds meetings in his RV
I can't afford his gas
So I'm stuck here watching TV
I don't have digital
I don't have diddly squat
It's not having what you want
It's wanting what you've got

I'm gonna soak up the sun
Gonna tell everyone
To lighten up (I'm gonna tell 'em that)
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up o I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna soak up the sun
I've got a crummy job
It don't pay near enough
To buy the things it takes
To win me some of your love
Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
Maybe i am crazy too

I'm gonna soak up the sun
While it's still free
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Before it goes out on me
Don't have no master suite
I'm still the king of me
You have a fancy ride, but baby
I'm the one who has the key
Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
Maybe I am crazy too

I'm gonna soak up the sun
Got my 45 on
So I can rock on.

Soak Up the Sun if a perfectly serviceable song. For real, actual, make-your-ears-bleed, dear-god-make-it-stop radio play, you need:

Seasons in the Sun
Sundown
Sunshine on My Shoulders

And those are just the "sun" songs. Don't make me come down there with a K-Tel playlist!
