Two reasons.
Reason #1, the Detroit Lions.
Reason #2:
I was at my mom’s house for Thanksgiving, where we spent the night playing some Wii bowling after dinner. I went to bed early because I was feeling worn out after that, but did not think much of it... till the morning.
Shortly after I woke up on Friday in my mom’s guest room… BANG! I had massive pain in my left shoulder, my upper chest and down my left arm. I also was white as a sheet, seeing spots feeling like I might pass out (I didn't). My first thought was that I was having a heart attack. My mom called 911 and gave me an aspirin. My wife started freaking out.
The paramedics also thought it was a heart attack. So, they put me in the ambulance and took me to emergency room at a local hospital. My wife had gotten dressed and was in the ambulance with me. On the way, the paramedics started an IV drip with nitroglycerin in it. (You have not known pain till you’ve had somebody stick a large needle into the back of your hand while traveling in a moving vehicle.)
The ER folks took my blood, gave me more nitro, took my blood, gave me a chest x-ray put me on monitors, including a machine that took my blood pressure every few minutes. They initially ruled out heart attack, but admitted me to the hospital as a precaution. There, I spent a lovely 20 hours or so being used as a pincushion. I had several blood tests and some injections of anti-clotting medicine – which were injected into the skin around my midsection. All the while, I was hooked up to a heart monitoring device.
By Saturday morning, they had ruled out a diagnosis of heart attack to the satisfaction of the cardiologist and another doctor on duty there. So, they let me go home. But, I have to see my doctor Tuesday for what promises to be a long and expensive series of tests.
The cause of the “attack” could have been just anxiety or a huge muscle spasm. But, it also could be angina caused by hardening of my arteries, a blockage or something else. I’m trying not to worry too much till I know more.
So, how was YOUR holiday?
